I'm trying to declutter my desktop but when I try yo delete some old PDFs, I get a message that I need <machinename> administrator permission. I AM administrator on my machine!, but I can't delete anything. I have tried creating another user with administrator permissions and deleting them that way but I get the same message. Any ideas?

I tried that but the icon isn't there

It says I need permission of <machinename><other username>

I deleted that use from the command line and when I restart the user reappears

Why the file is on my desktop but under the permission of another user is a mystery.

Why that user keeps reappearing after being deleted is an even bigger one.

The user doesn't show up as being able to log in under.

    I'm at a loss.

    Sorry, I was offline.

Where exactly on your drive are the files you cannot delete located?

To temporarily disable OneDrive, you just need to right click its Cloud icon on your Taskbar to go into its settings.

A couple of things. First. I left off the fact that it not only said < Machine name> But it also said another username besides mine. That username shows up under users, but I can’t login as that user I don’t know where it came from.

Second, how do you disable one file? I don’t see it in the left-hand column of my file view when I go to look at files so I don’t think it’s active. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Tim,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

If you use OneDrive which is enabled by default or any other Cloud service that may be syncing your files on the Desktop, temporarily disable that, then check if you can delete the files.
