About 1 to 2 months ago, this random glitch started happening. There is a gap between my browsing software. It happens to basically all my windowed fullscreen programs like Steam and Spotify. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? The included image shows the gap between the programs.

    Hi Anonymous_ ,

I'm Christine, a Windows user like you. I'll do my best to help you.

I can see here that there's a space or gap between your opened apps and the taskbar. Restarting the explorer.exe service usually fix this kind of issue.

May I know if there's any changes made before you got this issue?

Please try to check and follow the steps below:

    1. Update your Windows.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upd...

    1. Restart explorer.exe

    On Windows 11:

Right click on start menu and choose Task Manager

Click Details Tab and end the task of explorer.exe

Then click Run New Task and type explorer.exe and hit enter

    1. Update or Reinstall the Display driver

Please press the Windows key + X

    Then click Device manager

    Kindly expand the Display Adapters

Right click and choose "Update Driver automatically"

If the issue persists Choose "Browse my computer for driver"

and click the old version of driver

If it will still the same, please uninstall it and restart your device.

Please let me know the result. I'll be happy to assist you all the way until it's resolved.

    Thank you,

    Christine L

Came across this after losing patience with lack of feedback and resolution from MS about this behavior. Thanks for directing me to a workaround that is somewhat better than killing and reloading explorer. Did a desktop lock / unlock and my app windows now appear normally without a gap above the taskbar. Another explorer issue I've seen is the apps that cover the taskbar when maximized. Used the Win+Ctrl+Shift+B shortcut to reset the display driver and that appears to correct that behavior. Hopefully MS addresses these annoyances rather than tweaking some obscure feature that is rarely used.

Right click the taskbar > Taskbar settings > Taskbar behaviors

Toggle on 'Automatically hide the taskbar'

Toggle off 'Automatically hide the taskbar'

This should readjust to the taskbar

Just upgraded to windows 11 and started tinkering with the taskbar height. Had a gap issue, happened upon this trick. Not sure if my issue is the same but I hope this helps.

This gap constantly appears when you open program windows that were previously maximized to the screen's full height. This might be because of my 125% scaling. It is very unpleasant to experience such behavior...

I don't think it's a scaling issue. My scaling is always set to 100% and I experience this issue as well.

I only see this start to happen once my monitor goes to sleep/machine locks and I log back in. I think that is the cause.
