Notepad not working on arm build: Package Failed updates, dependency or conflict validations

Hello,

I have a Windows 11 ARM build (10.0.22598) running as a VM and when I try to open a .txt file, I receive this error: "Package Failed updates, dependency or conflict validations".

I've tried the "cleanup-image" commands in powershell with success, but when I run "sfc /scannow" I receive a message that corrupt files have been found. However, when I try opening CBS file, to investigate the cause of the corrupt files, I once again receive the error: "package failed updates..." !

How should I proceed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I see - I was under the impression that a free version of Parallels exists.

>>Also, looking at the tab in settings "Windows Insider Program", it say my PC doesn't meet the minimum hardware requirements. I think this limits the builds I'm able to update to - is that correct?

Absolutely yes it is correct.

Microsoft's policy says we can offer limited support on Insider Builds running, especially on unsupported hardware, so we cannot provide much help here. However, with the flexibility of Windows methods always exists.

Some hints that might help you grab a stable 22621 ISO are on https://

docs.getutm.app/guides/windows/#downloads which you will probably need to use to perform a full reinstall, otherwise, you will hit an unsupported hardware block.

    No worries.

Yes, I'm on a M1 Mac, using UTM at the moment. Is this problem related to build i'm running and thus I should switch my hypervisor software? Or how can I update the build using UTM? Is VMware a good option?

    Thanks

Oops, a mistake on my part. Sincere apologies for that.

Are you on Mac M1? Now Microsoft through Parallels allows you to directly install Retail Builds instead of going through this route.

If you check for updates, you should be offered 22621.

    Hi Sumit,

Was there another part to your post that I'm not seeing because I'm not sure what you mean by "hope that helps"?

Regarding the build, this an ARM build and the only ARM builds I see are 22598, 23466, and 25375 (see https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewarm64).

    Hi Jared,

Is there a reason why you are using an Insider unstable Build? I suppose you should be on 22621 at least for maximum stability.

    Keep ys posted
