2nd Monitors don't working using USB-C

After spending nearly, $2500 in the store, the sales rep, of course, doesn't cover the new DPIN and/or Display Ports for video are the ONLY outputs, and softly mentioned I "may need some cables".

USB-C (for me - on a brand new machine / Aug of 2023), DOES NOT WORK for 2nd monitors.

I had USB-C to male HDMI, USB-C to female HDMI, and evening tried to daisey-chain them together, (as both are newer monitors and have both HDMI and Display ports), as I attempted to use HDMI to HDMI into the 2nd monitor, and that didn't work.

In the end, by the 4th trip back to the store, getting more things I didn't need, the ONLY variation left, was to go back to OLD TECHNOLOGY on a new machine; the OLD traditional, ordinary USB connection. USB to J5 HDMI, as this 4th variation was the only thing left, or take the machine back to where I bought it.

Even adjusting the setting, going back and forth to HDMI, then back to Display port, on BOTH monitors, always produced the same result; each and every variation, using [2 different monitors], LG wide and a curved Samsung, on a brand new machine, the 2nd screen was always blank.

Nice to know, (also to add), with a brand new machine, my new sound card didn't work, and I had to go back to a 2015 sound card, as well as, the 2013 USB to HDMI model, to EVEN get my new machine to work functionally, after getting all new things. Yikes!

Way to go Microsoft!

ANSWER -- for a 2nd monitor, on a new machine with Display Ports only; (for the time being), as you may be in a similar situation, and the answer is GO back to OLD school USB to HDMI directly, for a 2nd monitor; as the Display Port will work fine, and keep the Display Ports for your larger/bigger monitor, I was told.

USB works better and more properly, as the NEWLY pushed patent Gawds, of the USB-C for monitor use, is telling you a fanatical pipe dream.

Just my situation, I thought I'd share.

Be Well!

    Hi, Redlines33,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

Not all USB C ports are the same. To be able to use your monitor the motherboard must have USB C Thunderbolt technology and use a compatible cable. Some motherboards have this technology only in one specific port and other motherboard models don't have it in any ports.

You will need to check your motherboard specification to see if this technology is available on your motherboard model. If you cannot find this information, provide the full model of your motherboard and a screenshot of the system information and I'll be glad to check this information for you.

1-Right-click on Start then click on Run

2-Type: msinfo32 and click on Ok

The reason the old USB to J5 HDMI is working on your computer and the USB C is not working, is that on the old USB to J5 HDMI the technology needed is in the cable, and when you use the USB C the technology needed is on the motherboard. Despite the USB to J5 HDMI looking like an ordinary cable, it has a board inside it which makes it work like a USB graphics card.
