    PLEASE HELP!

I cloned my hard drive and now Windows is asking me to Activate. It worked for several months until the most recent update. I have the product key but it will not accept it. The last hard drive was failing and so I needed to replace it.

What can be done to resolve this?

    Thank you.

    Hello, Kelly Kabayama

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I’m sorry to hear that your PC is asking you to activate Windows and it’s not working. There could be several reasons why this is happening, such as:

    • Your PC has a hardware change that affects your device’s digital license or product key.
    • You’re reinstalling Windows on a PC that came with Windows pre-installed, but the manufacturer didn’t activate it.
    • You’re using a product key that doesn’t match the edition of Windows installed on your PC.
    • You’re trying to activate Windows with a volume license key that has exceeded its activation limit.
    • You’re offline or have an unstable internet connection that prevents Windows from contacting the activation servers.

To fix this issue, you can try the following steps:

    • Make sure you have a valid product key or digital license for your edition of Windows. You can find your product key on a label inside the Windows box, on a card attached to your PC, or in a confirmation email if you bought Windows from the Microsoft Store.
    • If you have a valid product key or digital license, try to activate Windows online by going to Settings > Update & Security > Activation and selecting Activate. If you see an error message, follow the instructions to troubleshoot the problem.
    • If you can’t activate Windows online, you can try to activate it by phone: Product activation for Windows – online & support telephone numbers - Microsoft Support.

If none of the above steps work, you may need to purchase a new product key or digital license for Windows from the Microsoft Store, or contact Microsoft customer support for further assistance: Contact Us - Microsoft Support. Windows license issues involve personal information and are not suitable to be handled in public forums such as Microsoft Community, and only Microsoft Customer Support can handle such private issues.

Let me know if you have any other concerns.

    Best regards
