    Hello, this is Emily.

Before you upgrade from Windows 10 to 11, it is best that you run the PC health check app to make sure your computer meets the requirement. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how... If it doesn't, I wouldn't recommend upgrading. If it does, it should be safe to upgrade to Windows 11. The upgrade process is supposed to be seemless and won't cause data loss. With that being said, everyone's computer is different and the usage history is different, meaning computer's current health is not all equal. If you want to be extra cautious about it, it is always a good idea to back up important personal files before you do that just in case.

Also keep in mind, after you upgrade to Windows 11, if you don't like it, you can roll back to Windows 10, but you must do it within 10 days.

    Hi Emily,

Just to let you know I upgraded today and so far all appears fine with the exception of a small problem whereby Windows Firewall appears to be stopping my Bitdefender Firewall from starting. I have tried some suggestions and checked the base filtering engine but to no avail and have now contacted Bitdefender support.

Again my thanks for your kind assistance Emily.

    Yours

    Martin

You are welcome Martin. I am sorry your previous experience was awful.

I have been using Windows 11 on several computers at home, and have upgraded them for the ones at work where I manage as IT. There has not been any difficulty. If you rather stay with Windows 10, you can, as it is still supported until 2025. But if you want to give Windows 11 a shot, knowing where you are coming from, definitely consider backing up your data first. You can download the Installation Assistant https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2171764  And run it, and upgrade from there too. Just make sure the laptop is plugged it during that process as any abrupt shut down during that process can mess things up. I will suggest that you disconnect anything connected via USB/bluetooth, unless it is keyboard/mouse for a desktop PC. If you have any third party antivirus, uninstall that as well for a better outcome.

I personally like Windows 11. But I think that's a very subjective question.

    Hi Emily,

Thank you for the reply. Windows is inviting me to upgrade advising that my laptop meets the requirements. I am slightly concerned because last year I purchased a new Acer laptop which the manufacturer deemed Win 11 ready. Microsoft also advised it met the requirements. However when I installed Win11 things went haywire and it would not shut down. I returned the laptop to the store who replaced it with another brand new Acer machine which also developed the same difficulty when Win 11 was installed. I returned the second laptop and had them replace it with an Asus instead. I,m sure you can appreciate my concerns. Could I ask if you had any difficulty and how you are finding Win 11 to work with.

    Thank You

    Martin
