My Win11 PC boots into a black screen

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble with my Lenovo Ideapad Duet 5i running Win11. All of a sudden, it no longer boots into Windows with any display -- only a black screen. On startup, I can see the manufacturer's logo, but then it all goes black... although I can hear windows booting up. So far, I've tried:

  1. hard restart
  2. checked to ensure the screen was not turned off using the extend/duplicate screen option
  3. tried booting to safe mode
  4. system restore from startup recovery console
  5. full format/reinstall of windows from the startup recovery console.

None of these have worked. Are there any other steps I can take?

Run into the same issue last thursday.

I made the device quasi-operational by disabling the graphics card.

You can do this either by either booting up in safe mode or connecting external display via usb-c dock. Both will let you in.

Then, disable the "Intel Iris Xe Graphic" in "Display Adapters" tab in the Device Manager. Windows will then use some basic software render and the integrated display will work. However you will not be able to connect external display.

You can turn it back on to make external display work, but don't forget to turn it off again, because getting to safe mode with black screen is kinda tedious.

However, the software rendering is sort of sluggish, so it's definitely not a permanent solution.

I ran into the same issue on the same product recently and I'm 90% percent sure it's something wrong with drivers update.

I can log in to the system with Windows Hello (can hear the sound) but the display just won't turn on.

So the safe way to get out of this imo is to format and install, and totally disable network connection to prevent the faulty driver being installed automatically.

    Hello Kyle,

    I hope you are good.

What happens starting from booting until getting welcome Page:

The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) performs a POST (Power-On Self Test) to check the hardware components.

If everything is working correctly, the BIOS loads the bootloader from the hard drive or SSD.

The bootloader then loads the operating system into memory and starts it running.

The operating system then goes through several stages of initialization before it displays the welcome screen.

What i want to say that you did all steps which help to get your Windows back. As you said that you did Full Format and Clean Installtion of Windows But that not helped too.

In This Case i Assume it might be an Hardware Issue especially in RAMs or Graphic Card.So i suggest to try test your PC RAM may be they are corrupted. If your RAM working fine then focus on Graphic Card by uninstall or rollback the driver of graphic card or replace it.
