My screen flickers on and off when restarting from deep sleep (all lights off) while on battery and plugged in

This is a copy of a post made in November by another member, I have the same problem exactly and I wondered if anyone had a solution?

The flickering seems to be mouse related...when I move the mouse, the screen goes to black and stays black until I find a good spot with the mouse. The only solution to fix this problem that I have been able to find is to power down and power back up. Then usually everything works fine. The only variation to these conditions were when I exhausted the battery, and, after plugging in and repowering, the condition persisted while I rebooted a few times. I have tried to update video and mouse drivers. I have changed the battery on my external mouse, but in any case, the same thing happens with the external and onboard mouse. Thinking that the external mouse might be at fault in any case, I tried unplugging the receiver from the USB port. I am running a two-year-old HP Pavilion Notebook. I originally purchased it with Window's 10 but have since updated to 11. Any advice is greatly appreciated

    Hi Jerico,

I have done both things and now have everything crossed that this will fix the issue. Would it be OK for me to message you on this thread if the problem happens again? Many thanks again for your help and enjoy the rest of your day.

    Regards,

    Rebecca

    Hi Rebecca -

You're welcome. I see, kindly repeat the steps above until step 5, then uncheck the check box "Show compatible hardware". You should see now the other drivers there. If you want your computer to not go to sleep while using the battery, please follow the steps below.

    1. Press Windows key + I to open settings.
    2. On the left pane, select System.
    3. Select Power and Battery.
    4. Select Screen and Sleep.
    5. From there you can select your desired time before your computer goes to sleep, in your case, select Never for the battery mode.

    Regards,

    Jerico T.

    Hi Rebecca -

I'm Jerico T., I understand that you're having some issues right now, I'll do my best to help you with your concern.

Let's try to use an older driver for your display and mouse.

    1. Open run box by pressing Windows Key + R and type devmgmt.msc then hit enter
    2. Locate and expand Display adapters (Mice and other pointing devices)
    3. Right-click on the driver and select Update driver
    4. Select Browse my computer for drivers
    5. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
    6. Select any older driver from the list and click next
    7. Wait for the process to complete, once completed, restart your computer and check if it resolves your issue.

Please do let me know how it goes.

    Regards,
    Jerico T.

    Hi Jerico,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I have just tried this and I am not provided with a list of older drivers only my existing one. If I click on that it 'updates it' but I believe it is exactly the same as it was before, Is there any way of preventing my laptop from going it full hibernation or sleep mode when running on the battery as this seems to be the thing that triggers it.

    Regards,

    Rebecca
