How do I fix "The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application" problem when closing apps?

Whenever I close an app (usually a game on Steam or other platform) I get an error that states "The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this application." as well as a few other errors saying similarly disturbing things. Closing an app also opens Samsung Magician which I used to install my new Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB SSD and two (2) system 32 windows, one with text, one stock. I have already ran my antivirus (McAfee) multiple times and it has been clean every time. Nothing too malicious has happened so far and my computer seems to be in good health otherwise. I am fairly new to computers which is why I am asking the internet. Can anyone help me out?

    Hello Spencer Shonk.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Regarding to your information I assume that you get an error message "The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application"

    when you close apps.

This is a warning message, it's not mean that your computer has a virus or be hacked. You can try to uninstall the Samsung Magician first.

After that try to run these commands in CMD run as administrator.

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealthDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthSFC /Scannow

    Reboot your computer.

If still have this error message and you are worried about it you can try performing an in-place install or in-place upgrade which will refresh

your Windows files and operating system without removing files or applications. That being said, we always recommend that if you have

important data, you should back it up before making large system changes. If you want to back up your data first, please do so.

Once you are done backing up, you can follow the steps in the following guides:

    1. How to run In-place upgrade in Windows 11 - Microsoft Community

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Hello Spencer Shonk.

    Thanks for your reply.

Did you mean that this message is been fixed The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application but still some Windows

    will pop up.

If it's this situation and you have done the in-place upgrade, your problem may be caused by third-party software.

I recommend trying a clean boot that starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

It can be used to determine whether a background service or program is interfering or causing a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,

I appreciate your help but unfortunately, it only partially worked. I did everything you said but some of the windows still pop up. It said that everything was fine for every check and repair command so perhaps I did something wrong there? Is there anything else I should try?
