The red X on the speaker icon means there is an issue with audio on your device. Your device may have an audio driver missing or another issue.
If you just wish to remove the icon simply follow these steps :
Click on start/settings/personalization/taskbar
Then click on Turn system icons on or off link.
In next window turn off the toggle for volume.
But if you wish to resolve the error for the audio try these steps.
Make sure your device has internet connectivity
right click on start button and click on device manager.
click on sound video and game controllers
then right click on your audio driver (it my be named Realtek or other depending on your device configuration)
click on uninstall device
reboot your device and let the driver install again by opening device manager then right clicking on the device of which the driver was removed.
Click on update driver.
Let the search complete and if it says the best driver is already installed choose the option to look for the driver in windows update.
When the windows update page opens click on check for updates and let the driver install from there.
