A fresh install of Windows 7

I have a builders version of Windows 7 Ultimate. Would I still need a key for registration purposes since Windoerbiows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft or do I even need to register it. I'm not sure that the Windows 7U would not allow me to install w/o entering a key.

I had Windows 7 Ultimate with any and all updates on an old computer until it went caput. I had thought that I could simply do a disk image or exact copy of the original drive but was told that that is married to that particular motherboard, etc. The only way might be to just use the exact make and model of motherboard. This is a shame as I had meticulously stayed up-to-date on any updates and fixes. Should I just purchase an unused Win7Ult SP1 and start fresh with my newer and better MB and CPU.

I like Windows 7 and I prefer it over Windows 10 in many ways and definitely over Windows 11. I cannot load my image files onto a storage device from a pc using Win11 and be able to view and transfer those same image files (that are now on the SD card) on my Win10 laptop. I wonder if that SD card would even be visible (explore) to Win7? I had thought that a photo was still a photo regardless of the OS. I had the exact same issue trying to load photos from a broken Win10 pc to the new Win11 pc so apparently a photo is not a photo from one version of Windows to another. Am I only to view and edit my photos depending upon which pc (and OS) they are on. I could just move from one pc to another pc depending on which photos are on what computer (now six of them).

I have different "Add device" methods yet that has not worked. I even tried to rename the drive letter and path. That also did not work even with disk management. I really do not want to load images via album or from the Cloud period as what I upload is not what I can download. A way for them to make money off of us I assume.

Anyway, any suggestions or better yet a solution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tab

Makes no difference whether 7 is supported or not.

You still need the product key; 7 does not come for free now.

    Builders version OEM version?

If so, you can't transfer it to another machine.

And you mention newer and better hardware.

The hardware manufacturer would also have to support and supply Windows 7 drivers for their particular hardware to enable 7 to install and work correctly on it.

I thought that I would need a key as you know Microsoft is NOT going to give anything for free, even if they no longer recognize Windows 7.

You are correct: They and their business partners who produced 7 still own the Copyright on it
