AMD Software Detected that a Driver timeout has occurred - AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, Help!

Hello,

I have a Ryzen 5, The ram I use is TeamGroup Vulcan Z DDR4 3200Hz my motherboard is an ASUS prime b550-plus, 1 - 500GB W_D black SSD and a 1TB SSD, 1000W PSU with a Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

I've just upgraded from a Radeon RX 6500 XT, I also upgraded my SSD and PSU.

when upgrading my build, I had no problems other than my PSU being 750W and the minimum was 800W so it would not boot but upgraded to a 1000W and no issues, now first when I booted, I immediately downloaded the latest drivers which would the only problem I have.

Fast forward a couple days later I've been playing like regular then out of nowhere my game freezes for at least 5 Secs, Then I'm hit with an AMD software detected that a driver timeout has occurred, I've had tried to fix the issue by doing

  • Disable MPO.
  • Reset Cache.
  • Disable all AMD services, Radeon super res, anti-lag etc...
  • Increase GPU timeout. (Made it worse by freezing my whole pc)
  • DDU Multiple times.
  • Trying older drives.
  • playing games on DX11.
  • Disable hardware acceleration.
  • Download Driver 23.8.1. (Came out today)

There's many more I could name but had done a while ago, but none work.

Game that mostly crash are (most of these are from pc game pass)

  • Back 4 Blood
  • Call of Duty MWII
  • GTA V (but actually fixed it)
  • Death Loop
  • Hitman 3
  • Unity Games

Games that don't crash are.

  • Fortnite
  • Minecraft
  • Halo Infinite

I haven't really gotten to try more games since I can't play most of my own already, Mostly I have also been playing VR Games to pass time and have fun, No issues.

let me know if there is maybe a hardware issue, also I don't overclock or undervolt,

Please Help I've been thinking of just switching to Nvidia, but I've been trying too hard to use this 7900 XTX for so long, graphics are amazing though.

Thanks,

    Hello KidNamed_Ace.

    Thanks for your reply.

It seems that almost every troubleshooting step we can do is tried and no luck.

Maybe replacing the graphics card seems to be the best solution for your problem.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

figured out the temps was the issue with the crashing just needed to replace the GPU and BOOM problem solved.

had seen a post where someone had shown temps and hotspot temps and there was a big difference from Phantom Gaming and MSI, so I just replaced it with an ASUS TUF, and everything was good.

sometimes cheaper isn't the way to go.

    Thanks for your advice, Tommy.

    Hello KidNamed_Ace.

    Thanks for your reply.

Based on your response, it seems that the situation of driver dropouts has improved under low load. However, it is clear that purchasing a

flagship graphics card is not intended for gaming at a 50Hz refresh rate. It is likely that there are certain hardware-level issues with this graphic

card that we cannot address. If you want to try reducing the temperature without making any physical changes, a safer option would be to provide

feedback on this issue and wait for AMD to release new driver updates to address the problem. A more aggressive approach could be to lower

the voltage and frequency through AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, but if any issues arise, the software should automatically reset

    back to default settings.

However, I think the best solution would be to contact the manufacturer for after-sales maintenance or to replace the graphics card.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Hey, Tommy

I think I might have found my solution, but it isn't the solution I was looking for.

The only thing I haven't tried is lowering my Refresh Rate, I didn't try the solution because I didn't like playing at a lower Refresh Rate them my monitors max, When I had lowered It to 50 Hz, I had tried a couple of tests in different games.

    • Back for Blood
    • Call of Duty MWII
    • Death Loop

And when playing these games, I didn't have a single crash in these games, but I didn't pay a lot of money for these monitors to not be running at its full potential at 165 Hz, if you could give a solution of maybe to lower the temp because it gets very hot or upgrade the cooling or upgrade something it sucks playing at what you're not used too.

    Hello KidNamed_Ace.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Regarding to your information I assume that your graphic driver always crash.

It seems that AMD graphics card driver crashes seem to be a common issue. You can find many users on the AMD forum who have reported this

problem and as a former user of the 5700XT graphics card, I often encountered driver crashes while using this card.

It seems that you have done almost all troubleshooting steps that an user can do.

Make sure that your Bios and motherboard driver is latest version.

Maybe you can try to set the memory as low frequency and try it again. (Don't use the XMP profile or other profile manufactor provide to you,

use the basic frequency and try it again)

Try to disabled core performance boost in the Bios may also worth to try it.

If you are going to modify BIOS Settings, please back up all your personal files first to ensure you do not lose data.

You can also try to disconnect the network and boot as the Safe Mode after that uninstall the Graphic Driver and install it again, reboot your computer

try to play the game with offline mode and check whether it's crashed.

If still crashed I think you can try to apply for after-sales service, as this may be related to a hardware defect in your graphics card.

Or you can contact the AMD for further help of this issue.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.
