How to fix display scaling AFTER custom scaling was applied in windows 11

I know, I know...I read the warning.

Whereas it said: “You shouldn’t change these settings unless you need to. It can cause text and apps to become unreadable. All your displays with be set the custom scaling size you enter and it can be difficult to go back to your original settings.”

However, in my defense, I also read in multiple posts where IF you change to say 115% (which is all I did) then everything “should be” fine and changing back to the recommended scaling settings and resolutions, again, “should be” fine. Well, it wasn’t.

Basically, the text is what I can only describe as sporadically darker and lighter on only parts of the individual character itself. Also, videos are not as crisp. All of this was not a problem prior to applying this custom scaling.

That said, please know all windows updates are current, along with the display adapter. So, I guess my question is there a solution “to go back to your original settings” WITHOUT rebooting windows?

Thanks, in advance!

    Hi,

My name is Igor, it's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll do all my best to help you.

Sorry, but can you explain why do you want to do this without rebooting? A standard solution could be to use System restore and roll back to the date before this change.

    Well I'm back...

Long story-short, this issue seemed to be the external monitor all along. The monitor was having other issues that did not apply to this particular issue, so before I executed any suggestions above, I figured I needed a new external monitor anyway and would go from there. Everything looks good for now!!!

In closing, thanks for your help people and I am glad to have a forum like this to troubleshoot with others!

Moving forward, what are my options now?

I would first determine if the issue is system-wide or specific to your user profile. Do that by creating a local account (make it an administrator), login with that account, and check the display. Here's a tutorial for creating an account:

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/add-local-user-account-in-windows-11.590/

If all is well under another account, we can step you through either repairing your profile or migrating your data to a new profile.

However, if the problem persists, then you can try a Windows Repair Install. It will repair Windows, but keep all of your data, applications, and settings. See this tutorial:

Oh, you are talking about the reset not rebooting. Rebooting occurs when you turn on your PC and it is not dangerous.

Please use System restore and roll back to the date before this change. You may lose only a program installed after this date if you have ones.

My thoughts are that I'm just like anyone else, whereas, I would like to avoid having to installs the countless programs, apply multiple setting changes, sign-in to who knows how many accounts to reactivate them, etc. That said, are you saying that rebooting windows, in this case, is the only way to fix this problem?
