low CPU usage (~3%) in games shown by Armoury Create or Xbox Game Bar - but no issue with actual performance

Hi there,

I have pretty strange problem with CPU utilisation indication by Armoury Create and Xbox Game Bar while gaming under Windows 11, looks like artificial indication because the games running perfectly fine with high FPS in high settings, no lags/freezes.

if I look to CPU utilisation in Armoury Create when gaming it shows very low CPU usage ~3%, Xbox Game Bar also shows ~3%, if I look to Task Manager/Performance/CPU it shows 30-40% utilisation which looks more relevant.

If I do a synthetic test by running Aida64/Streasstest it makes 100% CPU utilisation which indicated correctly in Task Manager/Perf/CPU and Armoury Create showing 100% utilisation which looks completely OK.

There are no any anomalies with actual performance but only in games Xbox Game Bar and Armoury Create seems not able to show an actual CPU utilisation.

Windows 11 fresh installations (couple of days) with all updates and latest drivers provided by Armoury Create.

CPU AMD Rayzen 7 7700, no overlocking.

Yes, I thought it odd that Game Bar isn't working properly, but hadn't used it. I thought that maybe Igor's BIOS update

    suggestion may help with that.

Then I had a look into Game Bar and mine is wrong as well, so I installed the MSI software for my mobo and the cpu

use is also not working properly with that.

But Hardware Monitor (and I've read of other accurate monitors) does report cpu use correctly... Hmm, strange science. Image

    Thanks, BossDweeb

Armoury Create is updated but if we assume that MS changed something or there is a bug in some specific API we may expect this fixed at some point.

If MS changed something in Win11, I would expect XBox Gaming Bar working properly as it is MS product as well.

    Hi Igor,

    Thank you for your reply.

Task Manager shows correct utilisation but Xbox Gaming Bar which is also Microsoft software gives artificial values.

Gaming Bar is useful as it shows information in-game but it does not work properly anymore.

I would like to understand is it HW problem or software problem which could be fixed with some next coming updates.

    • Is your Armoury Create software the current version ? Outdated 3rd party monitoring software can also cause problems.

I believe MS changed how cpu use is reported with Win11. As you have noticed Task Manager still gets it right,

but outdated 3rd party software will get it wrong.

eg- the software I use with my Logitech G13 game controller, which Logitech stopped updating years ago, reports RAM

use correctly but cpu use in low single digits, as your AC monitor does.

    • The current version of Hardware Monitor also reports cpu use correctly.

    Hi Rostislav,

My name is Igor, it's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll do all my best to help you.

Task manager and some other programs rely on BIOS data when calculate CPU usage. Minor BIOS incompatibility may result in wrong data.

Please use Process Explorer for an exact CPU load observation.. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/...
