Windows Storage Space drive not letting me copy large files to it

I have a 10TB Windows Storage Space, which is two 10TB WD drives merged into one to act as a redundant 10TB drive. I work in video, so I am often moving very large files to this drive. It has worked flawlessly for months, in every way. All of the sudden, I can no longer copy large files to it. It keeps coming up with a "There is not enough space on F:" error. The file I am copying is 79GB, and the drive in question has 881GB of free space.

The source drive also has 861GB of free space, so it shouldn't be an issue of not enough "temporary" space on the source drive, either.

I'm not sure why this started happening. I can copy smaller files, up to about 2-3 GB in size, but once they get larger than that, I have no luck.

    Hello Andy Jibb,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

There may be several reasons for not being able to copy large files to a Windows storage space drive. Here are some solutions you can try:

    1. Check disk errors.

Run a disk check utility to scan for any errors on the drive. Right-click on the drive, go to Properties--Tools--Error checking, and click on "Check". This will scan the drive for any errors and attempt to fix them.

    2. Optimize the drive.

You can click on the previous step, in addition to "Check" another option "optimization", using this function can help you optimize the drive read and write speed, defragment space.

    3. Check whether the file system is damaged.

If the file system on the drive is corrupted, it may cause problems when copying large files. You can try running the System File Checker utility to scan and repair any corrupt system files:

    4. Update the driver and firmware.

Make sure your storage drive has the latest drivers and firmware. Check the manufacturer's website for available updates and install them accordingly.

    5. Check the hard disk hardware.

If this is a plug-and-play type of detachable hard drive, remove it from your computer and send it to a professional hard drive inspection organization for inspection to confirm whether the hard drive has hardware faults.

So, here I am, again. It's January 9th and now, all of the sudden, my reformatted and rebuilt storage space is doing the exact same thing. There is 7TB free on my 10TB storage space, but I can not copy any files to it. Windows explorer says that the drive is full and I need to free up space. I'm at a loss and don't know what the problem is.

    Hi Andy Jibb,

    Thank you for your feedback.

I did consider giving you formatting advice at first, but most users probably don't want to format their drives because it takes a lot of time to back them up first.

However, if you can accept this proposal and you are ready to operate, please back up all the data on the drive in question, and then format the drive. Then, dump the data again to the drive to see.

    Best regards,

Thanks, Mitchell. Unfortunately, none of those suggestions helped.

    1. Check disk errors. - Disk had no errors.

    2. Optimize the drive. - It quickly optimized with no issues.

    3. Check whether the file system is damaged. - System File Checker scanned my machine and said it repaired some files, but this did not help anything.

    4. Update the driver and firmware. - It already has the most recent driver.

    5. Check the hard disk hardware. - These are SATA connected drives arranged in a Windows Storage space, as detailed above.

I'm starting to think I may just have to copy all of my files off of this drive to another safe drive, and either reformat the Windows Storage Space, or move to another system like a NAS for large file storage.
