Cannot install Halo Master Chief Collection

Anonymous

Halo Master Chief Collection suddenly stopped working on my PC, I got Gaming something UI trying to sync data, that fails then the game hung on the loading screen.

I tried repair through apps in settings and that didn't work so I tried reset. The reset just deleted the whole thing from my PC.

I go to the Microsoft Store where I purchased it and it's not in my library....

I go to search for it and when I click install, it asks me where I want to install it and then the install button just greys out and nothing happens...

As per usual, trying to find a support number to call yields no results. So, Microsoft have taken my money and I'm stuck with a game which I can't even install, let alone play. I'm frustrated with this to say the least. Very poor.

EDIT: this just came up, for the first time after five or six attempts at installing

I'm glad to hear that the problem was fixed and you are able to install the game again. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

    Hi RobinsonSilvestre,

Thanks for your detailed response, it's very much appreciated. I got part-way through your advice but unfortunately, hit a brick wall. I've detailed what I did below.

The SFC/Scannow returned corrupted system files and automatically repaired them

    Image

DISM / ScanHealth - nothing corrupt

    Image

DISM / CheckHealth - nothing corrupt

    Image

I did DISM / RestoreHealth anyway

    Image

Did the next lot and BITS was not started:

    Image

    Get-AppxPackage gaming.services -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers and Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices" -recurse wouldn't work in terminal

    Image

    Image

So I tried the commands in PowerShell (admin)

    Image

I'm not sure they worked, as there's no option to install gaming services on the Windows Store

    Tried in PowerShell (non-admin)

    Image

Then tried manually uninstalling from 'add or remove programmes' / ' installed apps' and option is greyed out.

I found further advice here: Troubleshoot issues with the Xbox app for Windows | Xbox Support

Reinstall the Gaming Services app on your Windows 10/11 device:

    1. Press the Start button  on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.
    2. In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter: get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
    3. In the same window, type the following command and press Enter: start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
    4. Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
    5. Restart your device and try to install the game again.

This worked and the app reinstalled.

    Hi, Chris,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

Usually, this problem is caused by corrupted files on Windows or a corruption on the Microsoft Store. You can use this procedure to find and repair the corrupted files on Windows and repair the Microsoft Store.

    Step 1:

Check if doesn't have any corrupt files on the windows.

1-Right-Click on Start then click on Windows Terminal (admin)

    2- Type these commands.

    sfc /scannow (and press Enter)

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth (and press Enter)

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth (and press Enter)

3- The DISM tool will report whether the image is healthy, repairable, or non-repairable. If the image is repairable, you can use the /RestoreHealth argument to repair the image.

4-Type this command and press Enter:

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    8-Reboot the computer

9-Then try to reinstall the game again

If this procedure fails and the problem persists, you can perform the repair upgrade using the Windows ISO, this procedure will repair all Windows files, apps, services, and registry keys.

1-Download the Windows 11 ISO at this link.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-downlo...

2-Double-click your ISO file, and click on the setup.exe file.

3-You may be prompted by User Account Control. Click on Yes if so.

4-In the Install Windows 11 dialog, click on Change how Setup downloads updates.

5-Select "Not right now". This will save you from downloading a new build (if available). Click Next.

6-Setup will check your PC and show a license agreement. Click on Accept in the license terms dialog.

7-Wait for the setup program to check for the available free space.

8-On the Ready to install page, click the Change what to keep.

9-Now, you can select Keep personal files and apps, Keep personal files only, and Nothing. Also, Nothing is the only option that will be available if your installation media doesn't match the installed Windows 11 version or language.

Note: It is safe to close the setup wizard at this step and cancel the repair install process. Otherwise, you won't be able to cancel it later. Finally, click Next.

10-Click on Install to start the repair install of Windows 11.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.

    Dear Chris_010101

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

Regarding your issue it seems that the problem is caused by the fact that you have tried to modify the game files. We suggest you try resetting the app shop by pressing WIN+R and typing WSRESET.

Alternatively you can tap Start - Settings - Applications - Installed Applications - Find Microsoft Store - Advanced Options - Reset - Restart Microsoft Store.

Looking forward to your further feedback

    Best Wish
