Windows hello, fingerprint error "your device is having trouble recognizing you, try again"

I'm using lenovo ideapad 3 and after the recent windows update on 13 October 2023, my fingerprint no longer works. On my lockscreen, trying to sign in with my fingerprint does not work, it keeps saving invalid fingerprint. So following online guides i tried to remove and add back my fingerprint. Removing it went fine but now i can't add back a fingerprint. When i to add one, it starts out and ask for my pin and afterwards when it tells me to touch and lift my finger, it does not register and keeps telling me "your device is having trouble recognizing you, try again". Before i removed my fingerprint, i tried adding another finger and i got the same error. It was working fine before i updated my windows. Any fix please

Hi Sajjad,

I'm Christine, a Windows user like you. I can see here that your Fingerprint scanner is not able to recognize you after installing update. No worries, I'll do my best to help you.

If I may ask, have you tried to update or reinstall the Fingerprint scanner driver as well?
Please send the make and model of your device. (Please press Windows key + R and type msinfo32 and hit enter, look for system model)

Update or Reinstall the Fingerprint scanner
Please press the Windows key + X
Then click Device manager
Kindly expand the Biometric driver or Human Interface Device
Look for Fingerprint driver
Right click and choose "Update Driver"
Select "Search automatically for drivers"
Check if the issue persists.
If the issue persists Choose "Browse my computer for driver" instead
and click " Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"
Choose the older version.
If it will still the same, please uninstall the driver and restart your device.
In case it didn't fix the issue we will try to manually reinstall the driver from Lenovo website, I'll be waiting for the make and model from you.

Please let me know the result. I'll be happy to assist you all the way until it's resolved.

Thank you,
Christine L

    Hello ,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

Firstly, could you let me know the specific system version (OS Build)? You can check it by pressing Win + X > System > Windows specifications*, click “Copy” and paste it in your next reply*.

Then please check the basic hardware information of your device. Win + Q to open the search box, type “msinfo32”, then open “System Information”, please take a screenshot of it and attach it to your next reply.

You can Reset Windows Hello (PIN code, figureprint). Please run Command Prompt as an administrator ("Win" logo key + "Q", enter "cmd", select "Run as administrator"), and enter the following commands one by one.

    net stop WbioSrvc

    cd C:\Windows\System32\WinBioDatabase

    ren *.DAT *.DAT.BAK

    net start WbioSrvc

You can also uninstall the figureprint scanner in Device Manager ("Win*" + "X" > "Device Manager" > "Human Interface Devices", find* figureprint device*, then right click > "Uninstall device"*), then reboot to see if it works. The system will automatically search and install the driver suitable for your device generally.

If it still does not work, you may go to the official website of your device manufacturer to download the corresponding model driver and install it manually. After the installation is completed, reboot and see if the device works properly.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,

Thank you for your advice. Rolling back the driver has fixed this issue for me!
