I really don't know what happened or how I got my desktop back. I only know the "built-in" ways of doing things.

Regarding the missing box, the Great God Google displays that MANY people with the same problem - just look There also many "solutions". I think I can try that FOLLOWING is one that I found:

PS: If you don’t want to modify Registry Editor manually or if you can’t see above mentioned key in Registry, you can run following command in Command Prompt directly: reg ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device" /v DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f It’ll do the same job and bring back missing checkbox in Windows 10.

Big thanks toWinaerofor finding the issue…

    Hello, this is Emily.

In order for this to work, please follow the steps below very closely:

    1. First, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign in options, scroll down to mid page, under "Additional Settings",Make sure "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello Sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (Recommended). " is turned OFF.
    2. Launch netplwiz, select your user, if the "user must enter a username and password to use this computer" box is NOT checked, please check it , click Apply. Then uncheck the box and click Apply. This will bring up a pop up window.
    3. On this pop up window, this is where most mistakes happen. Very important, erase the username that's prefilled. Username should be your entire email address for your Microsoft account. Password is your Microsoft account's password. Any typo here can prevent it from working. Then click OK. And back to the netplwiz page, click OK.
    4. Restart the computer now and it should work.

I appreciate you help but this is not what i am referring to. In the past when I turned on my computer it went directly to Windows. A month ago I had a problem - a virus or something and had to re install or reboot or do something. NOW, when I turn on the computer there is a box for me to sign in my to my Administrator Account - NOT MS account. Windows won't open until I do that. Researching this I found screen shots showing the check the box to either need pw or not. That box is missing on MY computer screen and somewhere I had seen a notice on my screen that my version did not have that box. That is why I gave my vesirn number. Please check "netplwiz" on your computer and see if your screen shot matches mine or does it have a check box in it. ln any case, I am trying to return my computer to where I don't have to log on each time. netplwiz was supposed to be the answer but NOT on my computer. So what else can I do??

I am glad you found the registry way to get the box back. The reason you didn't see that box is because you signed in as a local user and you had PIN option turned on under the outlook.com user, but it appears you couldn't get into the outlook.com sign in to turn that option off via Settings.. so you ended up using your admin access to do it via registry.
