Hi,

Desktop with Windows 11.

Power Options is set to Balanced with the following change. It's set to enter sleep mode after 15 min and hibernation after 60 min. And this works fine.

Then I make the following change to be able to wake it up for some scheduled task.

Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> Sleep -> Allow wake timers -> set to Enable (used to be important wake timer only)

It will go into sleep as normal. However, it will wake up every hour (this is the time it normally goes into hibernation) for a few seconds and go back into sleep immediately, but never enter hibernation. In the event logger, the minimal one has the following events when it wakes up.

20:36:18 Kernel-General

The system time has changed to ‎2023‎-‎10‎-‎18T00:36:18.500000000Z from ‎2023‎-‎10‎-‎17T23:36:17.005478400Z.

Time Delta: 3601494 ms

20:36:18 Kernel-Power

Firmware S3 times. ResumeCount: 1, FullResume: 1728, AverageResume: 1728

20:36:18 Kernel-Power

Firmware S3 times. SuspendStart: 212042841, SuspendEnd: 212042842

20:36:20 Power-Troubleshooter

The system has returned from a low power state.

20:36:27 Kernel-Power

The system is entering sleep.

20:36:29 Kernel-Power

The system has resumed from sleep.

powercfg /waketimers does not show any timer that' repeating or even in that time frame.

What's waking up the PC?

Thanks

I can confirm the issue is with setting

Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> Sleep -> Allow wake timers -> set to important wake timer only

When the time is for the PC going into hibernation, it will first wake up. Then it will enter into hibernation. In the event viewer, the following event is there

    Event 1, Power-Troubleshooter

The system has returned from a low power state.

    Sleep Time: ‎2023‎-‎10‎-‎20T02:37:45.072720300Z

    Wake Time: ‎2023‎-‎10‎-‎20T02:37:45.072720300Z

Wake Source: S4 Doze to Hibernate

Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> Sleep -> Allow wake timers -> set to Enable

The above event is missing. The PC will wake up at the time when it supposes to go into hibernation. But instead of hibernate, it goes back into sleep. The cycle repeats

Is this a bug in Windows 11?

That is odd.It is most likely switching over to a diffrent display driver. It is reporting that it has a low battery and most likely going into low battery mode and by doing so it is switching over to the basic display driver. Some times the PC will "black screen" switch display drivers when plugging in/out of ac adaptor.
