USB 3.0 ports not working

I recently inherited a desktop from a friend that had some issues. It was stuck on a 2018 version of windows 10 and it wouldn't update because of some errors. I tried my best to update it for a while but did not have success. I used it for about 8 months to stream and play games on it and it worked fine. I decided one day that I would do anything to get this computer updated and I did. I installed windows 10 onto a USB drive and installed the newest version of windows 10 onto the computer. Everything was going according to plan, minus some errors downloading some apps that I figured out, except for the fact that my USB 3.0 ports were not working. I have done everything that I could from updating the drivers, to updating the BIOS & drivers, to everything that I can think of to get these running but I can't. I really need these USB 3.0 ports to work as I need to access the Elgato Facecam that I purchased and use for work and streaming, but when I plug it into the back USB 3.0 ports nothing happens and when I plug it into the front 2 USB 3.0 ports it connects and then immediately disconnects. The camera worked fine before I updated the computer but has since not been able to connect.

For more information about the computer that I am using here is some stuff that I know that might be able to help-

Motherboard - Asrock H110-DGS

CPU - Intel Core I7-6700 CPU @ 3.40 GHz

BIOS Mode - Legacy

USB ports - 4 USB 2.0 on back, 2 USB 3.0 on back, 2 USB 3.0 on front

USB device manager - Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0

                                USB Composite Device

                                USB Composite Device

                                USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)

P.S. - It is not a problem with the device itself as I have plugged it into my laptop and it has worked just fine.

Please help in any way that you can, I feel like I have literally tried everything and I need an answer soon. Please do not suggest uninstalling the drivers or trying to update them as it doesn't work. I need some really out of the box answers for this. God bless and have a great day.

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

I understand that you’re experiencing issues with your USB 3.0 ports. Here are a few suggestions you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check USB power settings: Open the Power Options in the Control Panel and make sure the USB Selective Suspend Setting is disabled. This can sometimes cause issues with USB devices.
    2. Reset BIOS settings: Try resetting the BIOS settings to their default values. You can usually do this by entering the BIOS setup during startup (usually by pressing a specific key like Del or F2) and finding the option to reset to default settings. Disclaimer:  Microsoft provides no assurances and/or warranties, implied or otherwise, and is not responsible for the information you receive from the third-party linked sites or any support related to technology.   If you are going to modify BIOS Settings, please back up all your personal files first to ensure you do not lose data.
    3. Check physical connections: Make sure all connections between the motherboard and the USB ports are secure. Sometimes loose connections can cause issues. Additionally, try connecting your USB device to different USB ports to see if the problem persists.
    4. Update chipset drivers: Visit the manufacturer’s website for your motherboard and download the latest chipset drivers. Install them and see if it resolves the issue.
    5. Try a USB 2.0 hub: If you have a USB 2.0 hub available, try connecting your USB 3.0 device through it. This may allow it to work at USB 2.0 speeds, but it could help determine if the issue is specifically with USB 3.0.
    6. Please open the case of your computer and inspect the USB cable to ensure it is functioning correctly. Pay attention to any unusual looseness or damage. Additionally, check the USB 3.0 slot on your motherboard to determine if it is securely attached or if there is any looseness.

I hope one of these suggestions helps resolve the issue with your USB 3.0 ports. Good luck!

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best regards

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

In order to further assist you in analyzing the problem, have you installed the red underlined driver in the following image? If not, after install it, restart the computer to check.

If the problem persists after installing all the drivers, you can try uninstalling Intel-related management programs on your computer, which may intercept your USB driver. Then restart the computer again.

I had to software restart my computer and wipe my storage devices, so there is nothing but Windows Defender. I don’t really know what a clean boot would do for it since there is nothing on it but the apps that I redownloaded like Discord, Steam, and some games.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

If there are no loose hardware connections or other issues, then it may not be caused by hardware issues.

Do you currently have any security and antivirus software installed in Windows that may intercept USB drivers and cause your interface to fail.

If these programs exist, please first uninstall them thoroughly and then recheck.

At the same time, in order to eliminate interference caused by other programs, in addition to uninstalling, you can also perform a clean startup to further investigate other possibilities.

Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem. These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get back on track.

Ok, I went through all of the steps that you suggested and I just want to make sure that I tried everything correctly.

    1. 2.

    3.

I can't mess with the 3.0 connections on the back, but the cord for the ones on the front that connects to the motherboard I can.

I unplugged it, but I am able to wiggle it around a bit. While messing with the connector to the front 3.0 ports my computer did blue screen.

    4.

I'm not really sure which drivers I would need to download off of this list or if I even have them.

    1. USB 2.0 cords and devices work in both front and back USB 3.0 ports. The USB 3.0 devices that I have also connect to the USB 2.0 ports, but there is one device that requires a USB 3.0 port and that is the one device that I need to connect. After doing some trial and error of unplugging and plugging in different USB's into the different ports something weird happened. I plugged in one of my 3.0 devices into a back 3.0 port and it made the "device connected" sound, followed by many repeated "device disconnected" sounds and then the computer blue screened. When I plugged it into the front 3.0 port it did the same with one "device connected" thrown in after many "device disconnected".
    2. The back 3.0 block that is connected to the motherboard does not budge, but as I said earlier the cord for the front I can move around a little bit (I do not know the correct amount of movement a cord should have with the motherboard.)

Hope this helps get to the bottom of this! Thank you for replying to this as this is really frustrating me and my knowledge of computers only goes so far and I just don't know what else to do.
