PC completely crash without BSOD or creating dump files as soon as I open games

My Setup (Windows 11 Pro)

  • Ryzen 5800X
  • GSkill 2x32GB DDR4 (3600 mhz)
  • Asus ROG B 550-F Gaming Wifi
  • Samsung 980 Pro 1TB (PCIe 4.0)
  • WD Blue SN570 1TB (PCIe 3.0)
  • EVGA RTX 3080ti FTW3 12GB (with Resizable bar enabled)
  • Coolermaster 850W Gold + Lianli Galahad 240 AIO + 8 fans lighting daisy chained into a single aRGB port
  • Under load, CPU is in the 70s, GPU at 50 degrees (60 for hotspot)
  • Last hardware upgrades were done in June 2023 (AIO was failing so had to swap with a new LianLi Galahad AIO)
  • D.O.C.P is enabled
  • I have no other overclocking in place whatsoever (all BIOS options by default)

Symptoms

  • Under the desktop, doing office related stuff or browsing, no crash
  • I do GPU for Deep Learning Model Inference/Training all the time and nothing happens
  • No memory dump is generated (options are enabled under Windows)
  • I've been playing Baldur's Gate 3 since it launched and that's when the problem starts appearing.
  • At first, as soon as I opens any games, after sometime it crashes. But lately, I don't see even BSOD screen anymore.
  • When I play games like Apex Legends or FIFA, it crashes immediately.
  • Sometimes, BSOD with CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED and the computer reboots with no dump (Windows/Minidump). But most of the time, it just stop working and crash with GPU artifacts.
  • Even Viewer shows a critical error "Dump file creation failed due to error during dump creation"

Tried so far

  • Flash the BIOS to the last one (3205)
  • Reinstall Windows 11 Pro completely from scratch
  • Check CSM flag in the BIOS (it's disabled by default because of UEFI secure boot)
  • Tried 1x stick of RAM, then the other one, crashes a bit later (a few minutes) but crashes in all games
  • Ran MemTest86 with 4x pass, all good
  • Ran Drive Verifier, crashes with no dump (I cannot spot any driver then)
  • Reseat memory sticks
  • Swap memory sticks
  • Roll-back to Nvidia drivers by using DDU (crashing the same way)
  • SFC / DSIM fixes, no issues found even after crashes
  • I tried a different GPU iGame 2070 but with that GPU, PC works perfectly fine without any issue. Therefore, I thought it was GPU failure and RMA claimed to EVGA. They sent me a replacement unit and the situation is still the same.

What's next?

  • buy a new CPU?
  • probably PSU? Because PC was working fine with iGame 2070 GPU and power consumption difference between 3080ti and 2070 is literally twice!

Like many other posts before, it is very frustrating because I can't figure out which part of the PC is wrong even after trying with multiple tools. Anything else that I should try?

Thanks in advance!

Please try to uninstall Malwarebytes and possibly other third-party antivirus software.

Did you run Memtest Free or Memtest Pro? Free version skips some tests unfortunately.

Kernel-Power 41 (63) error mostly means the problem with power supplying. Can you replace power supply unit for checking? It may mean problems with power management in BIOS or motherboard too.

And you may try to turn off all CPU power saving modes in BIOS (different C states) to check if the problem is in motherboard.

See some details at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client...

Volmgr 161 event (cannot create dump file) is the result of unexpectable power ;loss.

    Hi Igor,

I have already checked event viewer to find the cause of the error but dump file or MiniDump file is not created at all whenever PC crashes.

This is the error before Kernel-Power event.

I attached system journals for system and application so that you can look further with this reply.

    Hi,

My name is Igor, it's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll do all my best to help you.

Please check system journal (Event Viewer) for possible errors at these moments, especially Kernel-Power errors. DistributedCOM errors should be ignored.

Or save system journal to evtx file and share it to OneDrive for analysis.
