Stop laptop display turning off when closing lid

Hi,

I have a laptop connected to an external display via HDMI.

I want to stop the laptop display turning off when closing the lid and everything moving to the secondary monitor.

If I had a single monitor it's easy enough to stop the display turning off when closing the lid through power settings.

However, with dual-monitors I cannot see a way to stop the laptop display turning off and just letting me close the lid.

Can anyone help please?

    Hi , TheCableGuy96

    I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

    Use the search bar to search and open Control Panel;

    On the panel, click on “Hardware and Sound”;

    Look for the “Power Options” tab and click on “Change how power buttons work”;

    Then change the settings for when to close the lid while the laptop is on battery or plugged in.

    Check “Nothing to do” so that the computer does not turn off in these cases.

    After that, you have to set the screen to extend mode when you close the lid, use Windows key + P and select the Second screen only option.

    Ivan,

    I already have it set to "do nothing" when I close the lid.

    However, I don't want it to shut off the display THEN have to tell it to use extended mode. By doing that it that way it closes the laptop display (the primary monitor) and moves everything across to the secondary display for me to then enable the extended mode.

    I need it to stop turning off the primary monitor when I close the laptop lid and literally do nothing and thus keeping the extended mode on.

    Thanks.

    Hi , TheCableGuy96

    I can't be sure, but this is a configuration condition in the hardware, when the screen is identified and closed, it deactivates to maintain energy savings, some old laptops had something similar to deactivate in the bios, for example Toshiba, in this case I recommend contacting MSI with possibility of them being able to inform.

    Hope this helps.

    I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 that still shuts down after closing the lid. I confirmed the settings are "Do Nothing" when closing lid. I have rebooted the PC multiple times.
