At abt 1am this morning, I found a thread started by "not_a_bot1001" that got me working on it again. I hadn't touched the Dell laptop in months and had already purchased a new PC to replace the inaccessible laptop. Along with his great and detailed instructions - none from MS all during this time - plus a work-around from a DELL page on how to get into the blue screen, I was finally able to fix the culprit! I'll soon switching to Linux or AmigaDOS to rid myself of future PC problems. By 3am, all was well, and just before going to bed, the laptop started a win update.

No worries MS: I'll be sending you two bills for back in the mid-2000s when win10 just started installing itself on my desktop and one hour later, the PC just died and wouldn't boot up at all, plus the cost for this laptop PC replacement.

Problem "fixed" [for now till the next MS-generated outage occurs again].

    Hey there!

My name is Ravi, an independent advisor and expert user. I am happy to help you. :)

I understand how frustrating it can be to struggle with the same issue for that long.

If you use a Microsoft account for your computer, you can reset the PIN.

1). Click on Set up my PIN on the login screen.

2). Add your login credential for the Microsoft account.

3). Complete a verification process if you enable two-step verification for your Microsoft account.

5). Type a new PIN and confirm the PIN, then click OK.

If it's not working, try logging in with the password.

1). Click on Sign-in options on the lock screen and click the key icon to choose the password login option.

2). Enter your account password and you can manage accounts after that.

If you don't get a password option, restart your PC to WinRE.

1). Click the Power Button icon.

2). Hold the SHIFT Key and click Restart.

3). Then, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Uninstall updates > Uninstall latest quality update and finish the uninstallation.

Feel free to get in touch again if you have any additional questions.

    Cheers,

    Ravi

Hey, so I've got the same problem. But when I try to set up a new pin, it keeps showing me this text ("The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this application.") I don't know what I should do?

I am sorry to hear that it didn't help you. And I am glad an answer from another expert fixed the issue for you.
