Windows Update tells me I need to update, but no important updates are appearing

Updates were automatically downloading normally until recently, but now Windows Update tells me "You're not up to date" and "Your device is missing some important security and quality fixes".  However when I hit Check for Updates no new updates are displayed.  The last successful update was a feature update to Windows 10 version 21H1, which was installed on ‎7/‎31/‎2021. I would like to update to version 21H2 if possible.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5584 with 12GB total RAM and 64 GB free disk space, running Windows 10 Home 21H1 (build 19043.2364).  I have my regular external keyboard / mouse and an external monitor, and otherwise no other different or unusual hardware devices connected.  My drivers are all up to date and no device drivers are showing as problematic in Device Manager.  I've tried checking for updates several times and rebooted multiple times, but no change.  I've used the Windows Update troubleshooter, and also tried various suggestions from Windows Community articles, without success.  So how can I reinstate my regular updates?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Trevor.

Thank you for updating me with that information. Please continue to perform the In-place upgrade as it will upgrade your Windows version to the latest 22H2. Kindly let me know how it goes.

If the issue still persists, please try performing an In-place Upgrade. It will definitely help in resolving update errors. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while your personal files, settings and installed applications will not be removed.

Few things to check on the PC

**Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting

**Disable or uninstall any 3rd party Anti-Virus program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade

Download the media creation tool(Click Download tool now) and save it to your computer.

Open the tool and select Upgrade this PC now.

Make sure to select Keep personal files and apps.

It might take some time to install Windows 10. Your computer will restart a few times, make sure you don’t turn off your PC

Thanks John. I tried resetting Windows update components, with no success. It looks like I'll have to update to v21H2 manually.

Just to add to the other post. 21H1 ended support in Dec 2022 and 21H2 in June 2023 so you need to update to 22H2.
