Deleted Microsoft Store App Remains In Start Menu

Hello,

I tried to uninstall a Microsoft Store App (Minecraft Launcher).

After I could not uninstall this app via right-click > Uninstall > Uninstall, I tried this via the "App Settings". Both attempts failed.

I can no longer run/launch Minecraft Launcher, but it remains in the Start Menu.

When I try to reinstall the app via the Microsoft Store, the color from the "Install" button disappears for a moment, so it looks like it's installing, but after a moment the color is back and I can press the button again.

Can anyone help me with this?

Try to reset Microsoft store using these steps:

> Press the Windows + R key to open the Run dialog box.

> Type wsreset.exe and press Enter.

> A blank Command Prompt window will open for a few seconds, and then it will close automatically.

> The Microsoft Store will open.

> Restart your PC and test.

If you're still unable to install Minecraft Launcher through the Microsoft Store, consider using the Xbox app:

> Open the Xbox app on your PC.

> Search for Minecraft Launcher and attempt to install it from there.

As a last resort, you can download Minecraft Launcher directly from the official website: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download

> Once installed, proceed to repair and reset the app as outlined in the steps in the link I provided earlier.

Please try these options and let me know if you encounter any difficulties or if the issue persists.

    Hi Patiix,

Thank you for getting back and letting me know.

Have you attempted to run the DISM and SFC scans I mentioned earlier? It's important to ensure a stable internet connection while running DISM. Afterward, please run the SFC scan. If you encounter any error messages during these processes, please take a screenshot and attach it to your next reply.

Additionally, have you ever made any registry edits, or used any third-party registry editor tools, whether related to Minecraft or not? This information can help narrow down potential causes.

If the issue persists after the above steps, consider reinstalling Minecraft Launcher from the Microsoft Store. After reinstalling, you can attempt to repair and reset it using the method outlined in this guide: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/rep...

Please follow these steps, and if you encounter any challenges or have more questions, feel free to let me know. I'm here to assist you further.

    Best regards,

    John J.D.

    Hello,

first of all, thank you for your answer.

I have searched once in the path "%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" for a shortcut that belongs to Minecraft Launcher, but unfortunately nothing is found here.

The same is the case in the path "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs".

    //EDIT

I have looked in both folders for other shortcuts for apps that were installed via the Microsoft Store. These are not to be found there either.

    Hi Patiix,

To better assist you, could you please confirm if you've made any registry edits related to the Minecraft app in the past to get it to run?

In many cases, deleting any registry entries associated with it can resolve the issue.

Additionally, if the problem persists after removing the app icon, you can try running DISM and SFC (System File Checker) to further troubleshoot the issue. You can find detailed steps for this process here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/usi...

Let's work together to resolve the issue.

    Best regards,

    John J.D.

    Hi Patiix,

I am John J.D., a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I see. It seems that the app is still showing in your Start menu even after you uninstalled it. To remove the app icon from your Start menu, you can try deleting its shortcut manually. Here are the steps to do that:

    > Open File Explorer and navigate to: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

    > Look for the Minecraft Launcher shortcut and delete it. Confirm the deletion if prompted.

If you don't find the shortcut there, you can also check this location: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. Keep in mind, you might need administrator access to delete it.

Additionally, if you've made any registry edits related to the app, ensure you delete all associated entries. Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Best regards,

    John J.D.
