Is it possible to reinstall a HP Laser Jet Pro M402 printer on a Windows 7 Pro Desktop PC?

I relocated my desktop PC (windows 7 Pro) and pNp HP m402 Laser Jet Pro printer to another room in my home. After I plugged everything back in the printer would not print. I saw a troubleshooting message that said "there is a problem with the driver for Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter, reinstalling the driver might fix this problem". I tried running my PC's troubleshooter to fix the problem and it said "Device driver software was not successfully installed". I double checked by launching the hardware update wizard and found that this driver is installed and currently up to date. I decided to uninstall then reinstall my printer and now I am getting 2 problems detected - the Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter driver and "there are Problems with some pNp Devices". When I re-installed the printer I used the installation disk that came with the printer so it's drivers would install correctly. The computer and printer worked wonderfully before I moved them. Is there something else I could try to fix the problem OR does this have something to do with Windows 7 being unsupported?

The elevated command prompt didn't work. No test page print. And now documents are NOT appearing in the print queue.

I have a simple set up - a single Dell Optiplex 3020 Desktop PC running Windows 7 Pro which is connected to a single HP printer. Nothing wireless; all old fashioned cable set up.

I ran HP scan doctor and it detected and applied some fixes (i'm not sure what they were). Then it asked me to print a test page. Nothing printed. Scan doctor then prompted me to print an "internal" test page by clicking a button on the app. A test page did print! Because of this the application recommended I remove the software by "uninstalling the program" and reinstalling with the product CD. While doing this as soon as I plugged in the printer both the CD install and PNP install activated. Result: still nothing printing or showing in print queue.

I am able to print a configuation page directly from the printer's control panel.

Don't delete the port. I doubt that's the issue.

It's possible that your problem is a corrupted print job stuck in the spooler. Here's how to deal with that:

    • Open an Elevated Command Prompt window (click Start, type Command Prompt in the Search box; right-click on the line to Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator," respond as needed to any UAC prompt).
    • Type the following in the black Command Prompt window and press Enter after each line

                               net stop spooler

                               del /Q "%windir%\system32\spool\PRINTERS\*.*"

                               net start spooler

                               exit

Then try to print a test page.

If that doesn't work, have you tried printing a configuration page from the printer's front panel controls?

There are several more things to try if the above doesn't work, so don't give up. Just in case we have to use the "nuclear option," let me know if you have any other printers installed.

Thank you for your help LemP. Yes, you are correct that is my HP printer.

My printer is connected with a USB 2.0 A/B cable. Since my keyboard/mouse are USB connected I physically moved them into different ports on the back of the computer and all work well.

The troubleshooter did not report any problem with pNp devices, so my assumption is a bad printer cable which I replaced today. Before plugging in or turning on the printer I uninstalled the printer by selecting it on the devices and printers window and then removing a device. Once this was done I restarted my PC and then plugged the printer in. PNP activated like it should and my printer reinstalled automatically. I then went back to the device and printers window>printer properties to print a test page. There was obvious connectivity because the printer turned on when I clicked on the command. However no test page printed. I tried stopping and starting the print spooler from the services window but that didn't seem to help.

The documents are showing in the print queue.

I also see under the printer servers properties there are duplicate USB001 ports mapped to the printer; one is a Virtual printer port and the other is a Local printer port. I believe the Virtual port is correct. I tried to delete the USB001 Local Printer Port but I was unable to because "the requested resource is in use".

Is there a way to delete the local port? Is it possible that is the printing problem?

First of all, the Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter has nothing whatsoever to do with your problems. You should ignore any error messages about this device.

No, the problem isn't related to the fact that Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7.

If you haven't done so since seeing the problems, restart your computer.

Because all you did was physically move the computer and printer, there should not have been any driver-related issue when you connected things up and turned them on in the new location. The failure to print probably was some other issue. Perhaps some internal component of the printer was jarred loose during the move or perhaps the USB cable was damaged.

The following 3 questions assume that your printer is connected to the computer by USB cable. If your printer is connected over your network, please indicate whether wired or wireless and skip questions marked USB.

[USB] Assuming that your mouse and/or keyboard are connected by USB, do they work properly?

[USB] Disconnect all USB devices other than your mouse and keyboard. In this configuration, does the troubleshooter still report "Problems with some pNp Devices"?

[USB] Is the printer's USB cable connected to the same USB port on the computer as it was originally? If you haven't done so already, try connecting the printer's USB cable to the other USB ports on your computer. If you have a USB-connected mouse or keyboard, what happens if you connect it to the USB port where your printer was connected?

Are there any error messages on the printer's LCD screen?

I've found that HP printer model names can be somewhat confusing. Is this your printer:
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/drivers/hp-laserjet-pro-m402-m403-n-dn-series/7458627

See if the printer can print a configuration page using the front panel controls. Assuming I got your model correctly, print a configuration page shown on page 79 of the User Guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04639074.pdf

    • Press the OK button
    • Open the "Reports" menu
    • Select "Configuration Report"

Open Device Manager on your computer (click Start, type Device Manager in the Search box, and press Enter). Please list all entries, if any, that show a warning icon.

Is there a category for "Other devices"? If so, what are the items in this category?

When you reinstalled the printer using the disk that came with the printer, did the process appear to complete successfully?

Open Devices and Printers. Is your printer shown there? Is there a warning icon next to your printer?

How did you go about uninstalling your printer?

Click Start and type the following in the Search box, then press Enter:

                 printui /s /t2

Is a driver for your printer listed? Click OK or Cancel to close the Print Server Properties window. We may come back to this depending on some of your answers to earlier questions.

I'm sorry, but I won't be able to get to this until tomorrow, but I did want to confirm that what you meant by "the elevated command prompt didn't work" is that you were unable to print a test page rather than you got some sort of error during the procedure.

For reference, this is what you should have seen (the large gaps are where I deleted some lines that are not relevant to your situation (the deleted material relates to the fax service):
