My mic randomly stopped working on night while playing counter strike 2 after days of trying every reccomended fix online still no luck. I have tried:

-setting devices as default

-deleting and reinstalling drivers

-deleting games and reinstalling

-checking for corrupted files and checked game files integrity

-made sure desktop had access to games and microphone in privacy settings

-made sure steam was picking up my mic input and made sure I could hear myself when using their test feature

-also made sure mic was still working in discord and other applications (mic was still working in other application)

After all that still had zero luck. But then relaized while looking in my mic privacy setting that windows last allowed access to counter strike on the day that it stopped working. So how do I reallow access to Counter strike? All videos and fourms I look at all give generic no help answers. Any help will be very appreciated.

Extra info: Counter strike registers that I am using push to talk but does not pull any sound from mic and no sound is being transmitted to others in game. No static or anything. I did not change any setting or anything it just randomly stopped working.

Thank you for the help but I have already tried all these fixes including the fact I had multiple friends bring over their mics/headsets to try those to see if it maybe be a software related problem with the steelseries microphone i had and still no luck. Uninstalling the audio device only reset my all my microphone settings in the software and in the audio control panel. To me it still seems like the windows privacy settings for some reason is not allowing csgo to access my microphone, but at the same time it is showing steam has access. very strange. I might just do a factory reset and see if that will fix it only reason I did not want to do this is becuase I live in an area with poor download speeds and it would take forever to redownload everything. Thanks for the input either way.

    Hello jakob granat,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

You can adjust the settings of the exclusive mode of the audio output device, because if the game is installed from Steam and you test the audio input successfully in Steam and open the game at the same time, the microphone may be called by multiple apps at the same time. Win + Q to open the search box, type "mmsys.cpl" and press Enter to open the "Sound" interface, right-click your device > Properties*>* Advanced tab, you will see "Allow application to take exclusive control of this device" and "Give exclusive mode application priority" two items, you can disable (or enable) these items to check if the audio is normal.

You can also Perform a clean boot (microsoft.com) to see if it is normal, this is a troubleshooting step. In this mode, we can further confirm whether it is caused by system problem or third-party software or personalized settings. So, please be patient.

Disclaimer*: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.*

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step so that it will help you get you back on track.

Additionally, uninstalling the device from Device Manager might be an option. Because after uninstalling the device, the relevant configuration information will be cleared, and when you connect the device again, a new configuration will be made. "Win" + "X" > "Device Manager" > "Audio inputs and outputs" or "Sound, video and game controllers", find your device, then right click > "Uninstall device", then reboot the device and see if it works. The system will automatically search and install the driver suitable for your device generally.

If it still does not work, you may go to the official website of your device manufacturer to download the corresponding model driver and install it manually. After the installation is completed, reboot and see if the device works properly.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,
