I updated windows 11 to newer version. After the update the pc got stuck on this screen "something didn't go as planned. no need to worry-undoing changes. please keep your computer on.". I waited for 12 hours and nothing changed still stuck. I really need a solution without resetting the windows, because I have some projects on the Desktop I can't lose.

Or At least If there's no solution, I need a method to move my project folder to another disk before reinstall windows.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Can you get into the recovery Environment using this method?

Start your PC, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

    Do this twice

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt... etc.

    1

If you can, try each recovery option in there, like uninstalling the latest update, System Restore.. etc.

    2

If none of the other options are working for you, a Windows Reset should not delete your personal files

    3

If you can get into Command Prompt, try this method to backup your personal files:

Insert a USB drive into your PC

In Command Prompt type this and press Enter:

    notepad.exe

Notepad should open, then select File - Open.

You can then use the File - Open dialog like a small File Explorer to drag your personal files and folders onto the USB.

Some other entries on the web for this issue mentioned that if you have Malwarebytes installed, it can interfer with (some) Windows Updates. The recommendation I read was to uninstall Malwarebytes, and once you're past the "Something didn't go as planned" problem, you can install Malwarebytes again. I found that I didn't need to uninstall Malwarebytes - I just needed to temporarily turn off the Web, Malware, Ransomware and Exploit protection of the product, then restore the protection after the Windows Update successfully completed.

I've disabled updates (including in group policy editor) and this **** still happens. Its really annoying because it slows down the boot time. It sits there for several minutes. How do I turn off this piece of ****? I don't care that something didn't go as planned. I want my PC to boot into Windows. Not having to wait several minutes for the **** to complete. How can a several billion dollar company be so incompetent that their own updates **** up. Its completely ridiculous! 😠😑😠😑😠

Thank you, Dave! I did not pose the question, but sure as heck appreciate your answer. Did not know if I was going to be able to recover my 1.5 year old desktop or not. Your 'answer' did the job. Thanks again, Sir!

    Sincerely, Russ
