windows 11 all usb devices disconnect and reconnect randomly when gaming (and possibly idling too)

Hi there,

I hope this finds you all well-

What seems to be happening is very intermittently- all of my USB devices disconnect at once, let me be clear- they're all plugged directly into the motherboard.

LG g403 hero mouse

k95 rgb keyboard

wave xlr + shure sm7b

arctis pro wireless hub thing

My build:

Custom built by me this year

asus Maximus hero z790

rtx 4090 FE-24gb

intel i9 13900k

g.skill trident z5 rgb 64gb 6400MHz cl32 ddr5

I've made sure my drivers are up to date via the armoury core utility- however I feel like it's better to go directly to the manufactures website usually- it was just easier for me to go there to get the drivers I need- Not sure how much that'd effect things.

I've tried re-installing the usb drivers already, edited the power settings and done that thing for usb devices under advanced power settings- i forget what it's called exactly but I've done that.

What else can I try? What could it be?

Thank you

I think it must be some sort of bug from the latest Windows update (on 8/30) because I have been having the exact same problem as you and it started around then. We also don't have any hardware in common so that further supports my theory that it is definitely a Windows problem. Hopefully this is fixed soon since it is quite annoying.

I have this same problem on my windows machine.

    Custom built:

    Ryzen 5950x

    3080ti

    64GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM

    Corsair 1000watt power supply

About 2-3 times per day, all devices will just randomly disconnect and then reconnect about 5-10 seconds later. The only device that stays connected the entire time is my keyboard (Corsair K100.)

I have been having this issue for about a year now and have experimented with different peripherals connected and disconnected, as well as performing a clean install of Windows, but the issue still persists. I've spent countless hours looking through posts and event viewer to see if I can find anything that might be causing it. All drivers are up to date, BIOS is the newest version, and Windows updates are all installed. This is definitely a Windows issue that I am hoping Microsoft is aware of and working on.

I have the same problem. It has appeared recently, the machine was running fine in that regard for half a year.

I share most of the hardware specs with Michael. Not all of it exactly, but mainboard chipset, GPU, CPU, make of the USB devices are all similar.

I have tried using different USB ports, no change.

Sorry, but I don't buy into the "go bother someone else" hardware defect explanation. I believe it has something to do with the USB controller drivers or a recent Windows update or a combination of them. I will keep looking for a solution there first.

Same problem here, had the computer for over a year with no issues until a month or so ago. Also an ASUS motherboard. Had not updated my drivers before this started occurring, but have tried since. Also turned off power sleep for all USB, ran a DISM repair, an OS scan, you name it.

    Hello, Michael Riddell

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It's possible that there is something wrong with the power supply of your motherboard. Have you considered unplugging a few USB devices and then checking to see if the situation improves? Or changing the power supply?

Additionally, if you're using a desktop computer, you could also try connecting the USB devices to the front ports of the computer case and see if that makes a difference.

Anyway, this issue is likely related to hardware and isn't strongly tied to drivers or the operating system. If you continue to be unable to identify the root cause, you might want to get in touch with the device manufacturer for further assistance.

Let me know if you have any other concerns.

    Best regards
