You don't seem to understand the frustration. Microsoft tend to force unwantet applications on the users, and this is one one them.

    • But keep pretending that it is "for our best interest". I'm soon over too Linux on all my machines anyway. I'm tired of this nonsense.

We need a disable button/setting for winget. I am use to and most comfortable with having to give all applications on my computer (including the OS) permission to access my network on a per request basis. I am not comfortable with windows auto cashing with a cloud framework and downloading or uploading anything without my permission. I understand that the concept of "locality" helps the average user have a more seamless experience however this specific feature is far more disruptive and disconcerting then it is helpful due to its implementation even for the average user. Most windows users are using their computers as workstations and by and large need the full functionality of their hardware and network access in order to perform at their jobs in an optimal manner. As with the gentleman with the audio platform we cannot afford for our systems having to kick on fans in order to cool a processor that shouldn't be running as hot as it is. If winget is necessary to the proper functioning of our systems then we should be able to postpone its processes until a more convenient time in our work schedule. What it is doing also needs to be much better documented and available not only to developers but the public at large. I know that myself and others have historically used windows because it was a nice middle ground between ease of use and configurability. If Windows continues to move away from that standard I for one and likely many others will be forced to explore other options.

The WinGet COM Server is actually responsible for the Windows user interface, Moreover, it consumes a lot of CPU due to different factors such as third-party applications that are running in the background

    responsible for what?

i read it is a command line for installing apps

i've been using this laptop for years without problems and now this process came from out of nowhere i want to totally uninstall or disable it

Hi, and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I understand the issue you have, There is nothing to worry I am here to help, The WinGet COM Server is actually responsible for the Windows user interface, Moreover, it consumes a lot of CPU due to different factors such as third-party applications that are running in the background, and for us to sort out the issue, kindly follow the steps below:

    Method 1. Do clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
    • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
    • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
    • Close Task Manager.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

    Troubleshooting reference: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135...

Method 2. Run memory diagnostic tool: The memory diagnostic tool is a RAM test to check if there are any issues with RAM.

    • Press Windows key + R then type in mdsched.exe hit OK then restart the device.

Method 3. Run system file checker.

On Powershell(admin), copy, paste, and enter each command below:

    sfc /scannow

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Once done restart the PC and check.

Let me know how it goes and I hope that helps.

    Bernard

All of a sudden my computer was being extremely slow and my CPU was at 100% and never changed. All of my CPU was being taken up by the Windows COM Server and it was using a high amount of power. I thought that it was a virus because it seemed to be constantly sending and receiving files over the internet as well. After finding out it was microsoft forcing a program on my computer that was not previously there and doing god knows what with the data it is sending, I uninstalled it through the programs and apps page in the settings. I have to go to sleep soon, but in the morning I will be finding ways to stop stuff like that from being installed without my permission in the future.
