No sound after returning from Sleep Mode Windows 11

I have a Dell Latitude with Windows 11. When my PC returns from sleep mode the sound stops working. When I check Sound Settings the laptop's integrated speakers (Intel Smart Sound Technology) are still selected.

I'm usually quite good at troubleshooting PC issues. I've followed all of the standard Windows troubleshooting steps including uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. Any suggestions?

    Hi,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I suggest that you check the Windows Audio services.

    > Press Windows Key + R then type services.msc

    > Now locate the following services:

    Windows Audio

    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

    Plug and Play

    > Make sure their Startup Type is set to Automatic and the services are Running, either way, restart all of them once again.

    >. If the Startup type is not Automatic then double-click the services and inside the property, window set them to Automatic.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

Same issue for me. Happens every time after PC wakes up from sleep mode. No remote audio since then, only reboot helps.

    Hi Paul:

I had the same problem today. I had to reboot to get audio working. I checked the 3 services from above and all are running and set to automatic. Any other ideas?

Fault root-cause seems to be related to a device startup timing issue with awaking from sleep or hibernate, potentially a service startup delay is needed within windows Audio /endpoints (will test out different scenarios and report back to thread)

Short temp solution : without rebooting device or physical removing/reinserting connections( which when repeated over time can lead to USB/phono cable failure)

    Steps:

Services >> Windows Audio Endpoint Builder >> right click >> Restart (service)

    OR

Services >> Windows Audio >> right click >> Restart (service)

Do you have a fix for this yet anybody? So frustrating as I'm having to restart several times a day now. I'm fortunate in that my PC is pretty new, so a reboot can take less than a minute, but I still then have to log back in and restart apps and sites I was working on before sound crashed.

Even extending the hibernate settings doesn't help, as after a period of inactivity, all modes of sound (media player, youtube, my music DAWs and apps, everything online or offline) still seem to decide to crash, meaning only a reboot will suffice.

The only method I've managed to find that seems to prolong instances of this happening is by setting music to play constantly in the background - definitely not a good solution!

    Please help!

    Thanks
