My icons suddenly have large spacing (Windows 11)

I was messing around with the display settings when I accidentally messed with the display sizing from 150% to 100%

I didn't think much so I ended up switching around from 150% to 100% then 125% then back to 150%

The weirdest part is when I was on a 100% display, I changed the font sizing and suddenly when I looked at my desktop, the icons where spaced a lot more than the usual.

I tried decreasing the font size from 150% (or somewhere in between) to 100% (the usual) but that won't do.

I even tried changing the icon size but sadly the spacing was still wide.

My only solution was to run a specific reset command and reset my whole laptop.

I can't show the icons sadly since it's currently reverting back but I wonder what caused the icons to go large.

If anyone can provide a more simpler method then feel free but any method works as long as it don't break my laptop.

Followed the instructions, restarted the Win Explorer in the Task Manager and it did NOT resolve the problem.

same. the registry tweak no longer works for me even though it used to work without any problem. maybe something related to my displaylink dock?

Likewise. Neither restarting explorer or the registry edit fixes the icon issue. It's very, very obnoxious.

Hi Seraphia_Est, my name is John D. an independent advisor happy to help you with this.

By default, Windows 11 doesn't allow users to change the distance between desktop icons, but there is a workaround that involves editing the Windows Registry. However, editing the Windows Registry can be risky and can cause system instability if not done correctly. Therefore, I would advise you to proceed with caution and back up your registry before making any changes.

Alternatively, you can try restarting the Windows Explorer task in Task Manager. To do this, open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard, then find Windows Explorer in the list of processes and select it. Finally, click on the Restart button located at the bottom-right corner of the Task Manager window.

I hope these tips are helpful in resolving the issue.

    Best regards,

    John D.

Windows explorer is also known as File Explorer in Windows 10 and Windows 11. You can restart it by opening Task Manager, scrolling down to the Windows Explorer task, right-clicking it, and choosing Restart.
