Why does Snipping Tool only cover part of the screen in Windows 11?

Hi, I am using Windows 11 with my laptop screen and one other monitor. When using the Snipping Tool, a gray box appears showing the area I can snip. This only covers part of the screen on the monitor, meaning I can't snip from most of the screen. This issue didn't happen in Windows 10, which allowed me to snip from any part of either screen.

Hello! I'm Jen, and I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

Please check if both displays have the same scaling settings. Go to Windows Settings > System > Display > Scale and Layout > Scale and select whatever percentage you want for both displays and then restart the system to save the changes.

If the problem persists, it could be that their resolution doesn't match. Please make sure to match the resolution of the monitor as closely as possible. Let me know how it goes. Thank you.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.

    Best Regards!

    Jen :)

    Hi Adam,

Have you tried switching the displays? Try setting your laptop as the main display as a work-around.

This seems to be an ongoing issue that needs to be fixed. I would recommend sending feedback to Microsoft regarding this matter. Your feedback will help them identify and address the problem effectively. I appreciate your patience and understanding.

Hi Jen, yes it does fix the problem with the Snipping Tool. However, I don't see it as a great solution due to the small text size. This did not seem to be an issue in Windows 10.

    Best regards,

    Adam

Hi Jen, thanks for your reply.

The resolution of both screens is the same. However the laptop screen has scaling of 125% (recommended) and the monitor 100% (recommended).

If I change the scaling of the laptop to 100%, the text is too small, and if I change the monitor to 125%, the text is too big. So it would seem they are recommended to be at different scalings.

    Kind regards,

    Adam

    Hi AdamM017,

Did you try matching their resolution just to test if the problem goes away?
