Sleep Mode Issue - FN Keys and Power Settings not working after sleeping

Hello everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I own a laptop, with windows 11, and I've been facing a peculiar issue after sleep mode. Whenever my laptop goes into sleep mode and then wakes up, several functions stop working. Specifically, the FN keys become unresponsive, and the laptop no longer goes to sleep mode when I close the lid or press the power button, despite having set it up that way in the power editor panel.

I find this issue quite frustrating, especially since everything works fine if the laptop hasn't entered sleep mode since the last restart. I'm at a loss as to why this problem is occurring, as sleep mode is not supposed to interfere with background software responsible for configuring the FN keys and power settings.

I'm seeking assistance from the community to help me fix this issue. If anyone has any insights into what might be causing this problem or suggestions on how to resolve it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you all in advance for your help and expertise!

Ok so, just some news about my issue.

I tried everything (creating another account, turning off some processes,etc...) without success.

I did a repair of windows as follows:

    1. Download windows 11 image from here https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11
    2. Perform a windows update by keeping my files and apps

It solved my issue. After the installation was completed, everything went back to normal.

    Hi Frozaccio,

Thank you for getting back to us.

We are still following this thread.

We are still working on other threads at the same time, sometimes the reply will not be very timely, hope you can understand.

The devices listed by the powercfg -devicequery wake_armed command are keyboard, mouse, wired network card, and wireless network card.

These devices are relatively common pieces of hardware used to wake up computers, and intuitively, they may not be the cause.

Consider the complexities of sleep-related issues.

It's also an idea to try disabling specific devices if you'd like to perform further testing.

I am writing to bring your attention to a recent observation regarding the issue we've been investigating.

Recently, I noticed a new symptom related to the problem at hand.

When I hibernate the laptop instead of putting it to sleep, the issue does not manifest itself. Moreover, hibernation seems to act as a remedy for the problem that occurs after the laptop has been in sleep mode.

    To provide further context:

    1. When I put the laptop in sleep mode, the FN keys and the "sleep when closing lid" feature cease to function.
    2. However, upon hibernating the laptop afterward, all these functions are restored, and the laptop behaves as expected.

I believe this observation could be a significant clue in pinpointing the root cause of the issue. It seems that hibernation has a positive impact on the functionality, whereas sleep mode triggers the problem.

I wanted to share this finding with you, as it may aid in narrowing down the investigation and ultimately lead us to a resolution.

    Dear Kyo,

Thanks for your response. I understand the complexity of solving this issue.

My laptop is a MSI Titan GT77HX 13VI-042US.

The hibernation mode is disabled and the terminal commands returned the following:

Should I try to deactivate the devices listed after the command powercfg -devicequery wake_armed to see whether they are responsible for the issue or not ?

    Thanks

    Hi Frozaccio,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand the frustration you must be facing with the sleep mode issue on your Windows 11 laptop. Sleep-related problems can indeed be quite complex and challenging to resolve. Let's delve into the possible causes and factors contributing to this behavior:

    • **Driver Dependencies**: Sleep mode can affect drivers and software running in the background. When your laptop wakes up from sleep, it's possible that the driver responsible for handling FN keys may not fully wake up or reinitialize, leading to the unresponsiveness you're experiencing.
    • **Quick Start Feature**: Windows 11 comes with a feature called "Fast Boot" or "Quick Startup" that allows the system to keep the kernel files in a state that is not fully shut down. This feature can sometimes cause conflicts with certain hardware and drivers, potentially leading to issues like the one you're encountering.
    • **Power Management Software**: Many laptop manufacturers include their power management software, which can take control over power settings and behavior. This software may interact with Windows power settings and introduce conflicts that affect sleep mode functionality.
    • **BIOS Configuration**: Some BIOS settings related to energy saving and sleep might impact how the laptop behaves during sleep mode. Certain configurations or compatibility issues can contribute to the problems you are facing.
    • **Model-Specific Design Issues**: It's worth considering that certain laptop models might have design or hardware-related issues that could affect sleep mode behavior. This could be a less common but possible contributing factor.

To better assist you, it would be helpful to know the specific model of your laptop.

Additionally, running commands like "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" and "powercfg -lastwake" can provide valuable insights into the devices responsible for waking up your laptop from sleep mode.

Worth testing is to try disabling hibernation on the device.

Sleep-related issues can be quite intricate.

There are numerous potential factors at play, and finding the exact cause can be like solving a puzzle.

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

If you have any other supplementary information on this issue, please feel free to let us know.
