Closing the lid of my laptop turns off my external monitor display 30 seconds later

When I close the lid of my laptop (LG Gram17) running Windows 11, the display of the external monitor I am using will go black, exactly 30 seconds after the lid is closed. My "Closing the lid" settings are both set to "Do Nothing" on battery and plugged in. It also occurs on a different monitor. The laptop doesn't appear to go to sleep as any music I'm playing continues to play through the external monitor's speakers. When I "waken" it, and to get the monitor back on, the monitor will then stay on until I finish using it. The process will start again once I leave the laptop for a while and come back to use it again. I've searched the web for a solution but found nothing relevant. Any suggestions please - it's very frustrating. Thanks!

    Hello k7k8k9, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

    I understand that when closing the lid of the laptop the external monitor loses the image;

    What exactly is the model and manufacturer of your graphics card?

    Download and run LG Update Center to update your device drivers:https://gscs-b2c.lge.com/downloadFile?fileId=R5...

    Create a new power plan;

    Access the Control Panel and click on System and Security;

    Click Power Options;

    Click on Create a power plan in the menu on the left of the screen;

    Select the High Performance plan and click Next;

    Set the Sleep and Hibernate time;

    Click Create;

    Set the lid back to "Do Nothing";

    Press the keys: Windows key + P and select the second screen only option;

    Check if the problem still persists;

    See you soon!

    No. However, I did find a fix! TL;DR: In the BIOS I enabled ErP (Energy-related Products).

    My tale:

    I started with verifying the Power Plan setting to ensure they were all set to never sleep, never turn off display, and do nothing when lid is closed. With an external screen plugged in, it went into standby 1-2 seconds after closing the lid. I had to move the mouse to "wakeup" the laptop and use the external monitor.

    I ran the Registry Script and it disabled Modern Standby (S0), but that didn't fix the issue. It just disables standby completely so you can't use it at all. When you close the lid, the laptop shuts down. According to Reddit, new laptop hardware doesn't support the Legacy Standby (S3).

    https://www.reddit.com/r/XMG_gg/comments/rti9xe/standby_s3_the_system_firmware_does_not_support/

    So then I double checked all the Power Plan setting to ensure they were all set to never sleep, never turn off display, and do nothing when lid is closed. It still shut down after closing the lid.

    After that I opened up BIOS. I disabled Fast Boot and enabled ErP (Energy-related Products). Finally It works properly! The screen and keyboard backlights turn off when the lid is closed, but it doesn't go into Sleep Mode. If the screens are extended it will flicker and shift everything onto the external display. If only the external is enabled, then there is no change when the lid is closed. However, when I opened the laptop it automatically extended the display again. Sleep Mode also works normal when you manually go into it.

    I hope this helps!

    PS:

    I didn't use this, but this site lists other ways to prevent the laptop from sleeping, like Command Prompt, Task Scheduler, and Group Policy.

    I have this same issue, but my external monitor blanks out in 1-2 seconds. I then move the mouse to "waken" it and I get the login screen. I did notice that the Laptop no longer registers the laptop screen as a monitor in the display settings. It does still show up on the device manager.

    After some searching on the internet I found this comment -

    "Modern Standby will put it to sleep anyway. It's an asinine piece of software built into Windows 11/8. 8.1 introduced it. 10, it wasn't really bothered with, and with Windows 11 and "Windows Modern Standby" forcefully enabled and not able to be disabled without firmware/UEFI/BIOS modifications it's not possible to keep it from sleeping."

    So I'm going to try that.

    Hi, @Mr. Cleaver1, did this work? And if so, how complicated was the fix? Thanks.
