Hi Frank, I actually remember now. This is a bug I've tested a while ago with another fellow user. You won't see that option unless you change the Background option to either Picture of Slideshow, then you can uncheck there. Spotlight doesn't have that checkbox.
How do I change the opening screen when I power on?
I'm using Windows 10 on a desktop PC. When I power on, the opening screen displays the Time, Date, a full screen picture, and three messages including, in the top right corner, "Like what you see?" The other two messages, which I ignore, appear to be Microsoft promotion messages.
The Time and Date are helpful.
But I would like to get rid of the full screen picture and the three messages, and power on with just a background color and the Time and Date.
Is it possible to do make these changes?

Problem solved.

Go to Windows Settings > Personalization > Lock Screen. Toggle off Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more...
However, it is impossible to set the lock screen with solid color only. As a workaround, you can find a solid color image from the internet, and save it on your local computer, then set the lock screen background to that image. I will also encourage you to submit this as a feedback so the Windows product team gets it. Feedback hub can be launched using Windows + F keys.

2023-09-10T14:26:28+00:00 Hi Emily -- thanks for your suggestion to toggle off "Get fun facts".
Problem is I don't appear to have that option. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place.
I checked my Personalization and here are my three options for Lock Screen (those currently selected are in bold font) --
1/ Background; Windows spotlight; Picture; Slideshow
2/ Choose one app to show detailed status on the lock screen – Options: None; 3D Viewer; Weather
3/ Choose which apps show quick status on the lock screen – Options: Sticky Notes; Microsoft Content; Get Help; Clock; 3D Viewer; Microsoft Store; Weather; Store Experience Host; Skype (I did not check to see if I could search any of these options)
If you have any other suggestions, let me know. In the meantime the immediate solution to stop the three messages is from loading is to simply hit the enter key, which skips the messages and goes directly to my sign-in screen.
So, my issue is solved -- sort of.
