How much are you spying on me?

So I just bought a new laptop today with windows 11. I bring it home and it automatically connects to my home wifi. Little freaky but ok. Then I open up edge and search for chrome download. And what do I get.....the first item on bing telling me I don't need a new browser and I should stick with edge. I ignore it and click the link to download chrome. Then I get another popup on the side saying....You know edge uses the same tech as chrome but with the "trust" of it being microsoft. So how much of windows 11 is spying on me and how to I opt out? Why can't I have an operating system that just leaves me the hell alone and stops spying on me?

If you’re looking for an OS that does not spy on you, it’s called Linux OS, bro. Any flavor will do ya. BTW, I use arch.

The only way to prevent any tracking by a billionaire company is to opt for lightweight versions of the system, modified by people like us who don't want these companies to make money by climbing on our backs, if tracking makes money (and we know that it makes A LOT OF MONEY ) should not charge for the operating system key.

Search on youtube or google for the lite version of windows 11 without all these trackers AND I RECOMMEND THIS TO ALL WINDOWS USERS IN 2023!

Why on earth would you want to add the known privacy invasion tactics of Google Chrome to what Microsoft already tells you they collect and also tells you how you can disable it?

Microsoft Edge, browsing data, and privacy - Microsoft Support

Change privacy settings in Windows - Microsoft Support

All major commercial browsers from Google, Apple, Microsoft and anyone else for that matter are known to collect various information by default, so it's always up to you as the user to decide to what extent you'll allow that and perform the necessary configuration to avoid whatever collection you choose.

What you've noticed isn't that at all, it's the much more obvious notifications from Microsoft telling you that Microsoft's Edge is based on Chromium and so mostly the same as Chrome, which is made from exactly the same open-source based browser. However, they've added many security and other features that Chrome doesn't have, including the ability to disable much of the tracking used by websites via their Tracking prevention option found in Settings, Privacy.

All operating systems know everything you do by implication, since they absolutely must in order to perform the actions you request, but Microsoft makes that obvious by telling you and suggesting what they feel are better or safer options when they see you doing something relatively risky, which installing Chrome most definitively is.

You can choose to believe this is 'spying', but it just shows that you have no true concept what that actually means and to what extent everything you do is already tracked by any operating system you use. The funny thing here is that what you term 'spying', is them telling you of this potential and that you can avoid it.

Hi there, I'm John D, and happy to help you.

I understand that you have concerns about the privacy implications of using Windows 11 and would like to know how you can provide feedback to Microsoft. Microsoft values user feedback and has provided a way for users to share their thoughts and suggestions.

Here is a link to the Microsoft article on how to provide feedback:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sen...

Through this link, you can share your feedback directly with Microsoft and help them improve their products and services.

In the meantime, I recommend taking a look at the privacy settings on your new laptop and adjusting them to your comfort level. You can also consider using privacy-focused web browsers and search engines if you are concerned about data collection.

    Best regards,

    John D.

They are not spying on you (hopefully). It's just built into edge and the OS so no need to worry.
