My Windows 11 laptop will no longer connect to Wi-Fi. It says "You're connected using a virtual network adapter that we can't test." I have restarted my laptop and rebooted the modem, neither worked. Any help on what to do next?

Hi! I just had the exact same issue and was able to solve it. I have yet to find a forum that has solved this issue using this method that I just figured it out on my own so I'm happy to share what I did.

    1. Go to Device Manager >> Network Adapters
    2. Click on the dropdown menu. Find the network adapter that isn't functioning. You can find this out by right clicking on a network adapter and selecting Properties and under Device status it will tell you that it is either working properly or not.
    3. Once you have found the network adapter that isn't working, select the Driver tab then Update Driver.
    4. Select Browse my computer for drivers >> Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
    5. It will show you a list of drivers on your device available to choose from
    6. Pick one to install and keep trying different versions until you find one that works. Once you do, you should be able to connect to the internet and the Wi-fi tile should return. And if you right click on the new Wi-Fi network adapter version you just installed listed in Device Manager, under Properties it should say that the device is working properly.

I didn't have to restart my computer or modem anything I just needed to install a different version of the network adapter that wasn't working.

    Hope that helps!!!!

Please try the additional methods below.

    1. Shutdown your computer

Unplug the power cable from the laptop for 30 minutes, then plug it in again and turn on.

    1. Please try to turn off Fast startup

Press Start then search Control panel

Under View by > select Small icons

    Select Power Options

On the left side, Click "Choose what power buttons do"

Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable"

Under Shutdown settings > Turn off fast startup

Power off the system then pull the power cable from the laptop, wait for 15 minutes.

    Power back on

Microsoft is not helping here. Solution i found -

Press the power button to hard shutdown by long hold or press 30 sec.

Restart and the icons will be back.

Very disappointed with Microsoft responses here these basic steps even a child can do.

I found a fix to this from Reddit. Make sure no power cable is plugged into laptop, then while on , power off your laptop by holding onto the power button for 30 seconds, holding onto it way after it is already off. This is a “hard reset” but it doesn’t delete any files! When I turned it back on I can see my wifi again. After an entire day of not being able to use my laptop, looking for solutions online, this worked ! Hope this helps anyone still looking for a solution :)
