Hey David!
My name is Ravi, an independent advisor and expert user. I am happy to help you. :)
I understand how concerning it can be to see a black screen.
There are a few solutions you can try.
Solution 1: Run the Startup Repair.
1-Restart your computer while holding the SHIFT button
2-The Advanced Startup menu will open on the boot.
3-Go to Troubleshoot.
4-Now, go to Advanced Options > Startup Repair.
Solution 2: Boot in safe mode.
1-Restart your computer while holding the SHIFT button
2-The Advanced Startup menu will open on the boot.
3-Go to Troubleshoot.
4-Now, go to Advanced Options > Startup Settings.
5-Click the Restart button.
6-A window with various startup options will show up.
7-Press 5 or F5 on your keyboard to choose Enable Safe Mode with Networking.
8-Wait for your computer to boot.
Solution 3: Perform Clean Boot .
- Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and typing msconfig
- The System Configuration Utility box will open and by default, you are on the general tab.
- On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have check marks.
- Click on the services tab
- Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services > This is a very important part as if you miss clicking on this, the computer might not boot properly or permanently and will end up on clean installation.
- Once Hide all Microsoft Services has been checked mark on it, click on Disable All
- Click on the Startup Tab and click Open Task Manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.
- Disable all applications that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.
- Click OK, Apply.
Restart your system and check it.
Feel free to get in touch again if you have any additional questions.
Cheers,
Ravi
