How long should the advanced startup option for Windows 11 take?

I had to resort to the advanced startup option for troubleshooting and the advanced options tab (to fix UEFI settings?) for a game that required the secure boot state to be ON. The restart is taking forever though, it's currently just stuck on a blank black/dark gray screen. Earlier I shut off my PC and turned it on to try again, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

    Hey Ravi,

None of those solutions worked. Tried all of those that I could try. It always ends up at a blank black screen that will never turn off. Are you sure it's not a problem with anything else? I've seen responses about changing refresh rate to 60Hz, and mentions about GPUs. I'm not familiar with any of these terms but my question is could that be the solution?

Thanks for getting back with this information.

    Can you try these steps?

    1- Open RUN program

2- Type msconfig and press Enter

3- In General tab choose NORMAL STARTUP

    4- Reboot it.

This method has worked for a few people.

    Hey David!

My name is Ravi, an independent advisor and expert user. I am happy to help you. :)

I understand how concerning it can be to see a black screen.

There are a few solutions you can try.

Solution 1: Run the Startup Repair.

1-Restart your computer while holding the SHIFT button

2-The Advanced Startup menu will open on the boot.

    3-Go to Troubleshoot.

4-Now, go to Advanced Options > Startup Repair.

Solution 2: Boot in safe mode.

1-Restart your computer while holding the SHIFT button

2-The Advanced Startup menu will open on the boot.

    3-Go to Troubleshoot.

4-Now, go to Advanced Options > Startup Settings.

    5-Click the Restart button.

6-A window with various startup options will show up.

7-Press 5 or F5 on your keyboard to choose Enable Safe Mode with Networking.

8-Wait for your computer to boot.

Solution 3: Perform Clean Boot .

    1. Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and typing msconfig
    2. The System Configuration Utility box will open and by default, you are on the general tab.
    3. On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have check marks.
    4. Click on the services tab
    5. Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services > This is a very important part as if you miss clicking on this, the computer might not boot properly or permanently and will end up on clean installation.
    6. Once Hide all Microsoft Services has been checked mark on it, click on Disable All
    7. Click on the Startup Tab and click Open Task Manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.
    8. Disable all applications that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.
    9. Click OK, Apply.

Restart your system and check it.

Feel free to get in touch again if you have any additional questions.

    Cheers,

    Ravi

    Hey Ravi,

When I try to hold shift while rebooting the screen just turns black again. So the first two solutions don't work. I did as you said on the third solution, and my computer restarted normally this time. But the problem is when I try to do the Advanced startup option under System>Recovery, the screen just turns black, as in it's not turned off, but the screen is on, just black. Any tips on how to go about doing this? Here is the youtube guide link that I'm following: https://youtu.be/Hxga\_5RBB2w?si=Exx7Y7M2SEzxrgxS&t=26

BIOS is 0-5sec advanced boot is 5-30sec Windows boot is 30sec. Usually to change the secure boot settings I would think it would be a BIOS boot. To boot into BIOS requires the user must hit some key on boot. Check the BIOS boot order and to see if that is correct and to see what disks are listed.
