There is a issue with the audio system. normally the sound is perfectly fine, but when i join any kind of communication like a discord voice call then the system muffles all background noise and reduces it, it is still pretty clear and understandable, but the muffled sound create a lot of problems while playing games like valorant it is very uncomfortable cuz the audio feels like its playing the the background and is significantly reduced. I have updated my audio drivers and the device i use is ASUS ROG STRIX G15(2022) , with windows 11 home installed.

    Hey there!

    My name is Ravi, an independent advisor and expert user. I am happy to help you. :)

    I understand how uncomfortable it can be to have such a muffled audio.

    Could you please try this solution?

    >> Go to your audio and input settings and make sure your input is not your headphones but anything else like a PC mic.

    Feel free to get in touch again if you have any additional questions.

    Cheers,

    Ravi

    You always have this option. I do not know if this is else where in Windows 11 but it could be related to a specific app.

    This window is available from Settings-System-Sound-More sound settings. I don't use Discord so not aware and any settings there.

    Recently, there have been updates to certain devices that can detect your environment so you might look directly at your headset.

    Background music and other sounds get muffled are most likely caused by some AI noise reduction program.

    For Asus, it can either be somewhere in sonic studio or myasus or any of the premium audio apps (like DTS or Dolby or Nahimic...). If you use nvidia broadcast, that has AI noise reduction as well. I don't know if OBS or virtual audio cable bundles their own AI noise reduction feature or not.

    Could you please check Discord app's settings?

    1. Go to the Discord settings by clicking on the gear icon at the bottom left of the window.
    2. Under "App settings", select "Voice & Video";
    3. Scroll down to "Attenuation" and move the slider to zero;
    4. Disable "When I speak" and "When others speak".

    In many cases, such an issue occurs due to a service running in background. So, you can check the task manager whenever the audio gets muffled.
