Microsoft Print to PDF not populating the filename

When I print to a PDF, it used to be that the filename was populated in the save dialog window (so I didn't need to type it) and the folder location was the last location I saved a PDF to. Now, the file name is "Blank" and I need to manually type something in. How do I get the filename to pre-populate with the filename of the document I am printing to Microsoft Print To PDF? Other similar programs do this, a little frustrated if Microsoft print to PDF can not.

I believe I found a solution to this annoying Microsoft Windows 11 issue.

When "printing" a webpage, the Windows 11 default Destination is now "Microsoft Print to PDF", which produces a blank filename.

I changed the Destination back to "Save as PDF", as it was by default on my Windows 10 PC.

Now the filename populates automatically as expected.

I hope this works for others as well.

Repeat after me; everything Microsoft does has a whiff of incompetence.

At this point they do so many illogical and nonsensical things you Have to assume they do it on purpose. No entity on this Earth is THAT incompetent.

There aren’t enough electrons in the known universe to list all the silly, non-sensical decisions or design philosophies they come up with.

    They mock humanity’s existence.

Look up Microsoft in a Thesaurus, under “antonyms” and you’ll find Microsoft is the opposite of “productivity”.

    Hi Enquiries3,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Microsoft seem to have removed that functionality in the Print to PDF function and there is no setting, method or even a known registry hack to enable that.

The best option is to open the Feedback Hub (Windows Key + F) and report this lack of functionality to the developers there, hopefully they will bring it back.

That appears to be a chrome/edge function and not an OS function.

    Hi Dave,

I hoped this wasn't the case but thank you for your response. I have done exactly as you suggested and have my fingers crossed.
