HID I2C driver problem: TOUCHPAD NOT WORKING after update win 11 version 23H2

Hello everyone,

Two days after the most recent Windows 11 update (23H2), my touchpad has all of a sudden stopped working. The laptop that I use is a Lenovo Yoga 7i Pro X. I have tried a lot of Lenovo support's recommendations, but nothing has worked. I have also tried to install synaptic HID compliant touch pad driver. The touchpad's device appeared in device manager, and there was no error message, but the touchpad was not functional. I then restarted after uninstalling every touchpad-related driver. All the drivers were correctly installed and replaced by microsoft and the touch pad started to work again. After few hours, it suddenly got stuck again and the same procedure I did before now is not working. Is there anyone that could help me?

The code error is now on HID I2C device driver:

The device cannot start. (Code 10)

A request for the HID descriptor failed.

Thank you very much for your kind reply.

Best,

Antonio

I have this same issue on a Dell XPS 9575 2in1 running Windows 11 Pro. Unfortunately, I have used this laptop exclusively with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard for a long time and can't say when this issue first began.

At the moment, neither the keyboard nor the touchpad are working. I have two I2C HID drivers showing, the second of which has failed and reports, "This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the HID descriptor failed." I have endlessly searched forums for a solution to this problem. I have, at times, been able to get them both working, but then they stop. Sometimes, I can get the keyboard working. Both of these devices always work perfectly when in the bios.

Dell claims the touchpad driver for this device comes from Microsoft; thus, they are no help.

I noticed the issue when I installed a new hard drive and attempted a fresh install of Windows 11. Both the keyboard and touchpad quit after installation. I performed all updates and installed all drivers. Nothing worked. I reformatted the drive and tried several more times before giving up, using Dell's full install recovery image, and returning to Windows 10 Pro. Neither the keyboard nor the touchpad worked. I then began winding back bios updates; I jumped back three bios updates with no change.

At this point, I went back to the previous hard drive, and everything worked. I cloned the hard drive to the new hard drive and swapped them. The clone drive worked FOR A DAY.

All hardware troubleshooters reported the hardware was fine. Dell claims there are no new drivers to be installed.

The Dell Support Assistant also experiences erratic issues and will not start the Dell Client Management Service. If I uninstall and reinstall it, the local program works fine. If afterwards I log on to Dell support website (which draws on the client management service it will typically work once (if at all) after which neither the local program nor the web interface will work.

Windows has been configured not to install additional drivers, and yet it still does.

People have been having this problem for at least a year across different devices, yet I see very little in the way of resolution.

    Hello,

Based on your descriptions, it is still likely to be a hardware issue.

Please contact the manufacturer for further assistance, as I have stated above.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

    Hello,

Based on your screenshot, it seems that "Logitech - HIDClass" was installed, and it makes the touchpad use an incorrect driver.

Please Right-click Start->Device manager, right-click your touchpad->Properties->Driver->Roll back driver to roll back the driver.

If the option is grayed out or the issue persists, please uninstall the driver, and install the correct one from your computer manufacturer.

After installing the correct driver, please use this troubleshooter to hide the driver update from installing, and see whether the incorrect driver still get installed.

    Hello,

Based on your description, it is possibly that Windows installed an incorrect driver in the background after the few hours.

Please right-click Start->Settings->Windows Update->Update history->Driver updates, and provide a screenshot to check whether there are drivers installed recently.
