Overview

My laptop USB type C port suddenly acting weird. it can show display to my monitor and my pen display, but it can't be used for data transfer and I/O devices, which is a very weird problem as it usually the other way around. Every data transfer functions doesn't works unless it connected before the laptop turned on.

What did I do so it happened?

Honestly, I have no idea what of my action that might cause the problem as I haven't used the port for data transfer or drawing with my pen display for about a month. But I remember installing some Adobe products and doing some Windows updates. I also haven't installed any peripheral related software within the month.

Why do I think that the problem is something in Windows?

  1. Test the USB type C devices on other laptop/tablet and working
  2. Test the USB type C port on other OS and working
  3. The USB type C devices is working on BIOS (plug a USB type C dongle for a mouse to the port and the mouse is working)

My System

Windows Specification

  • Edition Windows 11 Pro
  • Version 22H2
  • Installed on ‎04/‎04/‎2023
  • OS build 22621.2506
  • Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22677.1000.0

Device Specification

  • Device name ******
  • Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz
  • Installed RAM 16,0 GB (15,8 GB usable)
  • System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  • Pen and touch Pen support

What have I tried to fixed the problem

  1. Simple reboot ====== Data transfer and I/O still doesn't works
  2. Install/Reinstall anything that might be related to the type C port ====== Data transfer and I/O still doesn't works =============================================
  3. Uninstall program that might caused this (ViGEmBus_1.22.0_x64_x86_arm64) ====== Data transfer and I/O still doesn't works
  4. Connected the device before turning on the laptop ====== Data transfer and I/O works but only once, doesn't works anymore if unplugged
  5. Tried on other OS (Ubuntu via LiveCD) ====== Data transfer and I/O works

I think I should emphasized that the problem only happened with the USB type C port while the other USB 3.0 type A are all working fine.

    Hi cheka handy,

Thank you for getting back to us.

Does that mean that in the case of Windows 23H2, the same symptoms are maintained?

In addition, does the temporary scenario you mentioned earlier work in the case of Windows 23H2?

    .

Would you mind sharing with us the detailed current version of the Windows you're running (including OS Build information)? This may help to add enough information to the feedback.
