My HP laptop running Windows 11 has a completely broken screen. I attempted to connect it to my TV in order to use it as a monitor to transfer data to my new laptop, but unfortunately, it did not work. Can someone please provide assistance with this issue? I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Josie! My name is David. I am a user of Microsoft products like you, and it is a pleasure to greet you.

To better understand your issue, when you mention that your screen is completely broken, does this mean that the screen doesn't display any image?

If your screen is not displaying any image, it's possible that your TV is not automatically detected as a second screen by Windows. This may be because, even though your screen is broken, Windows is still detecting the device physically. Please try the following steps. After turning on your PC and waiting for a few minutes to ensure it has fully started up, press the "Windows" + "P" keys. This will enable the screen selection. Press the keys twice and release them. Repeat this process until the extended screen or second screen allows the image to be displayed on your TV.

Please ensure select the HDMI input source you've connected your laptop to. This can usually be done using your TV remote.

Hi Josie! Thank you for staying in touch and providing additional information.

In this situation, considering the condition of your screen, if the process of switching between screens using "Windows" + "P" is not successful, what I could recommend for transferring data from your old laptop's hard drive to your new laptop is to get a SATA to USB adapter cable. By using this cable and extracting the hard drive from your old laptop, you can connect it to your new PC and migrate the necessary data.

The screen is black and white and slightly bent. When I plugged my new laptop into the TV to test it, it connected quickly and worked fine. However, when I tried connecting my other laptop to the TV, a connection guide appeared on the TV screen and it was also saying "No Signal".
