Turn off bluetooth when laptop sleeping

I have a Dell Inspiron 16, purchased about 6 months ago and running Windows 11 Home. When I close the lid the laptop goes into sleep mode, but bluetooth continues to be active, which can make it difficult to pair my headset to my phone. I've verified that the bluetooth driver "can be turned off to save power" in Device Manager. Any way to make the driver turn off when the computer is sleeping?

But as I understand it, Windows 11 is behaving as expected on my laptop in that it keeps Bluetooth active during sleep mode. This seems to be a common (universal?) problem with Windows 11? The workarounds I see appear to be things like using Task Scheduler or registry tweaks. I don't think a re-install will resolve anything. I am just going to live with the issue.

Updated the bluetooth driver. Still have "can be turned off to save power" selected. Bluetooth troubleshooter did not find issues. Could not find a Power troubleshooter. Same behavior - Bluetooth is on in sleep mode.

When I got the laptop 6 months ago I tried to resolve the issue and ran across an article that said you have to change some registry values to get Bluetooth to turn off in sleep mode with Window 11 (easy to do with Windows 10, but not 11). I was unwilling to make registry changes, so have been living with the issue, but it really annoys me, especially if I'm using my headset that can only handle one bluetooth source and I want to use it with my phone.

Ran the reg file and now I have no sleep mode. I can just shut down or restart my laptop, and closing the lid only has the options to blank display or do nothing (can't put it to sleep). Was that the intention? Not what i was looking for. I did back up the registry before I ran the file, so can always restore if needed.

    Sorry if that didn't help.

Can you try to disable the Modern Standby?

Just download and open the reg file from the link below.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

    Hi danschy,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

It should turn off since you have already set it to turn off in the Bluetooth driver Power management.

Can you try to update the Bluetooth driver to the latest version?

If that doesn't help, uninstall the currently installed Bluetooth driver then download and install the different/older driver from the PC manufacturer's website.

Also, try to run Windows troubleshooter.

    Run Power Troubleshooter

Open Settings => System => Troubleshoot => Other troubleshooters => Bluetooth => Run.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.
