Outlook and Windows Live Mail

Although WLM is long past its sell by date, I still use it and have for many years. Very good email client.

Trying to add my Outlook Mail account to WLM and have followed this link for server and setup information -

www.livewire.com/how-to-access-outlook-hotmail-in-windows-live-mail-4043807

States that it has successfully created the account but it's forever (!) downloading the list of folders available. I don't know how long it should take; it says a few minutes if you have a slow connection. I don't.

I cancel after continually downloading for 10+ minutes !!

Can anyone provide assistance ???

Thanks. I received another reply which confirmed my suspicions. It said "Hello, I got in touch with the article author this morning and confirmed that as a while ago, the IMAP workaround has not been working with outlook.com on WLM. I am afraid this is now a dead-end"

Not withstanding this, I now have an issue when I open WLM. I get an error window

    or I also get

I can cancel and use WLM as normal.

If I click OK I get the "Sign in to Windows Live Mail" window.

It's looking for password for my account (blanked). The "Remember me and sign in automatically" box is unchecked (?) so check this. and input MS Account password; assume this as it says "Don't has a Microsoft Account ? Sign up". Input and get, the message "user interaction is required authentication" as shown above. Go round in circles. I can confirm MS account password is correct as can log in.

    Any thoughts ?

I’ve just checked mine & the only option is to uninstall as it states there’s a problem with one of the programs.

Can you access the account via outlook.com?

    Please try:

    1. Close Windows Live Mail

2.Right click Start>Run & enter regedit & find this key:

    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

    1. Create these three DWORD entries in that key: RecreateFolderIndex=1 RecreateStreamIndex=1 RecreateUIDLIndex=1
    2. Restart Windows Live Mail

If the folders are already there then right click on each one & choose edit & change the entry from 0 to 1.

Can’t. Can only delete. I’.ve only installed WLM fron Live Essentials 2012 and not other apps. Repair seemly requires all apps to be installed not just one foe repair to function

Thanks. I would try to repair Live Mail.
Open the old control panel & click on live essentials then choose repair at the top of the screen.

Ran SFC and DISM Health Check and no errors detected.
