Windows 11 Issues: My Dell 13-inch XPS has a camera that is not recognized. The audio is so low it can hardly be heard. I've tried solutions listed on Microsoft Community pages. Nothing works.

My 13-inch Dell XPS is supposed to be a fantastic laptop. It is running Windows 11 and has never worked properly. I bought it in the US and had to fly out of the country the next day. I've repeatedly tried to get it fixed and, at best, repairs last until the next automatic update of the operating system, and then we go back to square one.

How does someone get help permanently fixing this kind of issue. After paying $1600 for the laptop, it turns out to be completely unsatisfactory due to operating system errors.

Click the first link and then click -> "Install the latest Intel 2D Imaging/MCU/Visual Sensing Controller Driver for Camera from the Dell Drivers & Downloads version 73.22000.1.23, A03 or later. If the issue is not resolved, then contact Dell technical support for assistance."

    This solved my problem!

The camera does appear in the list of my Device Manager. According to its properties, it is working as it should.

I'm running Windows 11. The 23H2 Update was installed today, but had no effect on the issues. I think that's to be expected. The issue is that it is not recognized by any program. I've checked the Privacy and Security part in Settings and all programs (WhatsApp, Zoom, etc.) have access to the device. None will allow a connection to the camera. Thanks again for any help you might be able to provide. Keith

I am having the same issue as the person who posted this question.

I'm not sure if this is the same case for this person but on my computer, I see the camera listed on the device manager. I have updated the driver, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, and tried restarting. None of this has worked.

I am confused why the built in camera is listed in the device manager but is still not found in my camera settings.

By default, win 11 update auto updates only critical win updates, and nothing else unless you have made the mistake of selecting the "Get latest updates" option, and if you have turn it off.

You obtain both Bios & Drivers updates from the PC Maker, there should be a shortcut on your system to that makers update utility, and no other source.

Run Dell Diagnostics and their update utility, all availabe via shortcut on your PC or Dell Support site

Hello, I’m Virginia, a fellow user like yourself.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems. May I ask which Windows 10/11 build are you running - 22H2 (Win 10/Win 11) or 23H2 (Win 11)?

Is the camera shown under device manager? If not then check further under View>Show hidden devices.

Have you chosen to all all apps to access the camera?

Start>Settings>Privacy & security>Camera, ensure allow access is set to On.
