Windows Update fails

Hello,

On my system, the windows update always miserably fails. (Windows 10 Version 22H2 (Build 19045.3516) )

I've tried the options with sfc and dism but although it found corrupted files, it wasn't able to repair them at all.

The system doesn't have any restore points and all utilities and guides of Windows and on the Microsoft page didn't provide any help.

Currently it tries to download/install the following updates
KB5032339 -> fails with error code 0x800706be

KB5032189 -> stuck at 6% without any progress for ages.

If possible I want to repair this whithout the need to reinstall the system or programs, as there are multiple proprietary licenses which can't be easily reissued.

I would have liked to add some pictures but unfortunately every upload of a picture fails, no matter which machine, browser (ff/chrome/edge) or image format.

    I think the culprit is this:

    CryptSvc service is crashing.

    1. Öffnen Sie die Datei erneut.

    Diese Situation ist eventuell ein temporäres Problem, das selbstständig behoben wird, wenn das Programm erneut ausgeführt wird.

    Wenn Sie weiterhin nicht auf die Datei zugreifen können und 

    - diese sich im Netzwerk befindet,

    dann sollte der Netzwerkadministrator sicherstellen, dass kein Netzwerkproblem besteht und dass eine Verbindung mit dem Server hergestellt werden kann. 

    - diese sich auf einem Wechseldatenträger, wie z. B. einer Diskette oder einer CD, befindet, überprüfen Sie, ob der Datenträger richtig in den Computer eingelegt ist.
    1. Überprüfen und reparieren Sie das Dateisystem, indem Sie CHKDSK ausführen. Klicken Sie dazu im Startmenü auf "Ausführen", geben Sie CMD ein, und klicken Sie auf "OK". Geben Sie an der Eingabeaufforderung CHKDSK /F ein, und drücken Sie die EINGABETASTE.
    2. Stellen Sie die Datei von einer Sicherungskopie wieder her, wenn das Problem weiterhin besteht.
    3. Überprüfen Sie, ob andere Dateien auf demselben Datenträger geöffnet werden können. Falls dies nicht möglich ist, ist der Datenträger eventuell beschädigt.

    Wenden Sie sich an den Administrator oder den Hersteller der Computerhardware, um weitere Unterstützung zu erhalten, wenn es sich um eine Festplatte handelt.

    See if you can backup and delete the .cat file via Windows RE.

    The event log entry also suggests running CHKDSK /F. (CHKDSK C: /R)

    I will now recommend that you try to repair Install Windows with an In-place Upgrade to fix the system.

    Hi Paul,

    thank you for the reply.

    1. no change
    2. it was able to install a third update (Windows Defender updates) but the rest still failed like always.
    3. I downloaded and tried installing the following files which were provided on your first link (the update with 133,7mb):

    windows10.0-kb5032005-x64-ndp481_0348ffa856ec170b373c9e7edd580cb1f01a1f01.msu

    windows10.0-kb5031988-x64-ndp48_cf8f8281813f1474b04a83398f4615c08786c2db.msu

    and for the KB5032339 update:

    windows10.0-kb5032189-x64_0a3b690ba3fa6cd69a2b0f989f273cfeadba745f.msu

    All of those installers properly started but when running the installation process they just showed "failed!" and proceeded to the end dialog telling me, the update wasn't installed at all.

    The only change after this was the error code for KB5032339 which changed to 0x800706ba after this.

    I hope you have other solutions.

    Hi AzraelHH,

    I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

    Please try the following methods.

    1. Run Troubleshooter

    Open Settings => Update & Security => Troubleshoot => Windows Update => Run the Troubleshooter.

    1. Use Command Prompt commands.

    => Open Command prompt as Administrator.

    => Type/copy the commands below , enter 1 by 1.

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    => Close the Command Prompt and restart your computer then try to update again.

    1. Manually download and install the update.
