    Dear Paul:

Thanks for your reply. NO I Do Not get an error message. I get a pop up window

saying that the AVG Internet Security app is not an approved app from the Windows Store..

    Patrick Meehan

    Patrick,

As Paul already mentioned, if that is a new device with Windows 11 in S Mode installed, you won't be able to find any 3rd-party antivirus app that actually works with S Mode, since it's completely unnecessary to have those outdated security apps with an S Mode system.

That's due to the fact that S Mode is a stripped-down version of Windows that's so secure, virtually none of the old malware can actually work, so those outdated AV programs become useless and the much less complex version of Windows Defender that's already included with S Mode is all that's required to keep your device safe.

If it's not a new device and you instead upgraded an old PC or laptop to Windows 11, then it's not likely you're running in S Mode if you weren't previously, so the issue might be something else.

I've got a 4-year-old Microsoft Surface Go tablet device with Windows 10 in S Mode and don't worry about malware at all, since just like Windows 11 in S Mode, this operating system is so secure I don't even think about malware, let alone ever get any.

The only valid reason to ever exit S Mode for the outdated legacy version of Windows that Microsoft calls 'Classic' (Yes, malware truly was 'classic'!), is if you absolutely MUST use some old, outdated software app that only runs on the older version of Windows, typically something like an old app you must use for work that's not available on the Microsoft Store.

Don't let anyone tell you to exit S Mode for any other reason, especially a useless, outdated version of a 3rd-party security app that will only make you less secure as a result.

    Rob

I use AVG on both Windows 10 and 11 it should not be an issue. Do you have Windows 11 S Mode by any chance?

Can you check if you are in Windows S-mode?

Open Settings > System > About. On the About page, scroll down to the “Windows Specifications” section. If you see the words “in S mode” to the right of the Edition entry.

    Hi PatrickMeehan,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

You should be able to download and install a 3rd-party Antivirus program.

May I know if you get any error message/code when you try to install AVG?

    Thanks.
