Hello Team,
I went to Azure Active Directory > Devices > All Devices. In that when I check the join type I see three different types mentioned for different devices. So System 1 has join type as Hybrid Azure AD joined, System 2 has Azure AD joined, System 3 has Azure AD Registered. What is the difference between these 3?

Now it's Microsoft changed the name to show for the 'Join Type' either
Microsoft Entra Register
Microsoft Entra hybrid joined
Microsoft Entra Joined

Choice depends on the who owns the data and who gets to manage the device and what type of user id is used to authenticate.
Hybrid Azure AD Joined is for:
corporate owned and managed devices
Authenticated using a corporate user id that exists at local AD & on AAD.
Authentication can be done using both: On-Prem AD & Azure AD.
Azure AD Joined is for
Corporate owned and managed devices
Authenticated using a corporate id that exists on Azure AD
Authentication is only through AAD.
AAD Registed Device is for
Personally owned corporate enabled
Authentication to the device is with a local id or personal cloud id
Authentication to corporate resources using a user id on AAD.

Hi
I've put together CA policies based on trust type and devices that are shown as Hybrid Azure AD Joined in Azure AD admin center Devices are failing the CA policy as it's seeing them as unknown. Do you know why this would be? It is using our Always on VPN to access the network if that makes a difference.

More helpful than the accepted answer by far. The docs pages literally don't even describe the difference in the first paragraph for any of the different types.

Not completely correct as Azure AD Joined machines have access to on-premises resources as well.

is there a way to convert Azure AD joined to Hybrid Azure AD joined?

The only way I have found is to disjoin from Azure AD then domain join with Hybrid Azure AD join configured. It would be nice to be able to Hybrid Azure AD join from Azure AD without disjoining the device.

I noticed that I cannot log in to my Azure user for Azure AD joined device(Windows 10). How can I do the same as logging in to an on-premise device where I can login my AD user to a domain join PC.
